not enough pressure??
not enough pressure??
i'm gettint fuel to my carb, but it isn't a steady flow. i just got done sealing my tank couple days ago. the fuel filter is brand new and the pump has 5k on it, but when i drained the tank, i used the pump to get the gas out. basically i have put quite a bit of strain on the pump becuase of draining the tank and clogged fuel filters. do u think i need a new pump or what?? any help would be great--thanx
i also had replaced the return lines with 3/8 hose, instead of the size it was stock. the hoses are all tight, i can't even twist them, so i really don't think that's the problem. well hopefully you guys can figure it out--thanx
I went through a similar process of tank cleaning / sealing a few weeks ago. With a new fuel filter and a fairly new fuel pump, I still wasn't getting enough fuel to the carb. I started disconnecting fuel lines at the carb to check flow and then moved to the next place I could get a line off and checked it. I guess there was some gunk left over in the return line to the fuel tank from when the fuel tank was all gunked up and it was blocking flow. I used an air tank to blow out the return line from the carb to the tank and the problem cleared up.

Please don't tell me you used rubber hose for the return line. If you did, replace it with the appropriate hardline. I bought a 25' foll of 3/8" aluminum fuel at the local the speed/race/dirt track shop for under 20 bucks. That's enough piping to do both the supply and return. If I were to do it again, I would use stainless steel, the aluminum crushes too easily when using the sotck fuel line hold downs.
As far as your problem, disonnect the output side of the fuel pump, add a length of hose to go into a fuel can and test for flow. If your flow is weak, the problem lies between the bottom of the tank and the pump. or the pump itself. To test the pump, pull off the pickup line to the pump, add a piece of hose and drop it into a fuel can. If flow is good through the pump, your blockage is in the supply to the pump.
Since you had the tank sealed, the first place I would look is inside the tank at the bottom of the pickup tube, there is a low spot there and the sealer tends to puddle in the depression, which can block the pickup line. It's also possible that some of the sealer migrated up in the pickup line, restricting flow, same for the return tube, but less likely.
Last place to look is the short piece of hardline that is mounted to the backside of the binwall. It has a rubber hose on both ends. I fought and fought trying to find a supply problem on the widebody, it turned out that this hard line had a pin hole leak on the backside of it where it met the back of the bin wall. The only way to find the hole was to remove the hardine and inspect it. Pinhole was from rust.
