normal
as a new RX-7 owner, I just want to make sure everything is fine with my car, I wanted to know if a few things were normal. First is it normal that when I start the engine, I sometimes here a whine from the ignition? Second, when on the highway and going 60+ is it normal for the cabin to be a little shaky? (not really bad, just enough to shake my wheel and my rearview mirror) sorry if I seem like a noob, most of my old cars, were non-rotary high sitting, underpowered crap piles.

When starting, is it a whine without the engine turning over? If so, may be time for a new starter. No, shaking is not normal. Start with a tire/wheel inspection and have them balanced. If it's still there, then inspect the suspension.
In my sig line is a link to the FSMs and other rotary reading. DL whatever you need and begin your rotary education.

Everything about the RX-7 is totally conventional, except for the engine itself.Diagnosis of problems is pretty much the same as with any car,so start with the basics.
The vibration inspection,as Trocoid said, should start with the tires/wheels.Then move on to the driveshaft, alignment, suspension components and wheel bearings.
As far as the whine.....how do you mean? Which ignition, the ignition switch the key goes in, or the engine ignition?(distributor)
I assume the engine fires up fine, since you stated that it starts and runs. Its not uncommon for the alternator to whine immediatly after startup, since the charging system will have to work hard to replace the large amount of juice lost while cranking the starter motor. If the fanbelt is loose, then belt squeeling is often heard immediatly after startup as well, during the heavy charging cycle.
