no trailing spark and no tach ??

hey guys :
got an 81 auto gsl

the other day i lost my trailing spark when i noticed my tach just stopped working. i did some checks in the faq and archives to see if i can find my problem.( still looking)

so here is what i checked so far. maybe i over looked something that you guys can find .

i started with taking a screw driver plugged it to the trailing plug wire from the dizzy and bridged it to my shock tower to see if i got spark . nothing switched out the ignitors no luck there and also switch out a new coil and that didnt do anything ....

i put a volt meter to the trailing coil to see if i can get a signal when the car was running . no luck there.

my only guesses are my ecu went bad or the tach itself went bad but that doesnt explain why the trailing is still not working or its a combonation of the two.

has anyone had this problem happen to them ?

if the ecu is at fault anyone have a link on a way to rewiring the trailing to run without the stock ecu ? like maybe a msd box or somthing of that nature.

thanks in advanced.

My bad. Didn't see that you changed out the ignitors.

Have you tried switching coil wires yet?

yeap did that already too lol.

question: does the trailing mainly run off the ECU for a signal output?

mods delete this thread please =) but before you do i have another question to add to this .

found the problem had to rewire the trailing coil and fix the ground on the ignitor.

to add to this on a side note. is there like a RTV or somthing of that nature that is used between the ignitor and the dizzy casing? to help strenghten the grounding signal? i used a wire brush on the metal surface of the ignitor and reinstalled it back on and then it worked so ... any idea as to what that substance was on the grounding side of the ignitor?

Yeah, some arctic silver thermal paste will prevent it from happening again for a long time. The arctic silver stuff is a bit pricey though.

Forgot what I paid for it but this is the paste doc is referring to...every rotorhead with factory ignitors should have some in their toolbox...
