hmmmm...ok gentleman I'm glad to see we're behaving now...but I too just wanted to comment that I have been guilty of hittin the ole fuel cut once in awhile... I just can't help it..rainy days are just toooo much fun....I too have similar mods to ernnie-mac but i've also got an 8.5 lb flywheel and ported secondaries...so it gets up in the revs PDQ especially in the first 2 gears...canb't wait to get my MIkuni's on...

hehe, they tested it at the factory, and put a redline there for a reason. No need to rev up your engine that high.

Uhh, mabey this is just a figure of speech that your using, but there is no fuel cut on a 1st gen. Its impossible to have a fuel cut with a carb.

do you really want something to rev to 9k rpm that are feet away from your nuts? (transmission, flywheel, clutch, engine)

Ouch... That hurts just thinking about it!

BigErn- it just sucks that you're telling everybody what great shape the motor/car is in, and how little you care about it. You sound like the guy with the perfect girlfriend, who treats her like crap. This is making it difficult to like you much right now, hence the testiness from other members.....

Okay, now that I got that off my chest....

The fuel filter is probably the first bottleneck in the system that you are dealing with. Check into the dual filter mod or an aftermarket filter to correct that.

Then you have the fuel pump, which (in my opinion) is the next bottleneck. You can hook yourself up with a nice pump/fpr for under a hundred bucks.

Next in line (again, in my opinion) would be ignition. Cheapest way to fix that is a 2nd gen coil pack, and a Transistor Trick unit if you can find one. You should be able to get this in for under 60 bucks or so.

Of course, exhaust is also going to fall into this equation at some point (and I'm sure there are many opinions as to where it should rank). If the motor can't "pass gas" then it won't spin very fast.

The list is endless of course, but there comes a point of diminishing returns. You start out getting big returns for little investment, but if you want to push it past that point, you're going to be spending more money for less return. How fast do you want to go? How many rich uncles do you have?

Heh,heh.....yea those good ol finger smiley's are standard communication tools over at Pirate4X4. If you dont post one up with every paragraph, people think theres something wrong with you!

Just remember, the rotary is not truley a rotary engine like a jet turbine. Its planetary, and it still has plenty of vibration and flexing loads placed on the crank. It may be less than a piston engine and it may feel smooth, but there is a lot of violent stuff going on in there. It took a lot of really smart people a lot of time and money to figure out how to keep it all from self destructing, hitting 8K isnt worth the extra second or so youll get from each gear.....just shift and get back into the meat of things between 5K and 7K, and your engine will live a long happy life.
