Guess I get to figure out why the bowls bleed down when it sits.

Took a quick trip to the gas station today. When I went to restart the car, it wouldn't fire off. Popped the air cleaner off and the secondaries are pissing fuel out. Tried the hammer trick and only got one of the needles to seat. Towed it back home and be ripping the carb off in a few days!


Just wanted to vent. Never had a carburetor this picky and finicky.

 

I've had this happen, but only after the car's sat for a spell.

Car is driven 60miles atleast 3 times a week. Rebuilt the carb exactly one year ago. The bowls have bleed down, engine off, since I put it together. Ran great though!


I'd rather find a cure for the sticky needle problem lol

They use a ball to control the inlet of fuel.. no more needle, and no friction or sticking.

Here's my 2cents worth....I had exactly the same issues with my 83 GSL years ago and it has nothing to do with the carb. I had a plugged charcoal canister ;when the car was running ,the fuel vapours were pressurizing and not properly venting back to the tank (as the emission system is designed to do). When the car is shut off , those pressurized vapours had to vent , the easiest path is through the floats in the secondaries. That of course forced fuel out through the nozzles and the secondaries filled up with fuel and made hot re-starts a bugger. I disconnected the canister and guess what....problem gone. I hope this helps....

 

No canister. Tried this trick I read about on here turning the pump on and closing off the feed line, and letting go. Whatever was stuck in there took a hike.

Now to replace the booster and leaking master cyl. LOL.

 

this bloke gave you the best hint

if you dont have the charcoal can,, you may well still have the bowl vent solenoid ,, and you may have blocked the old hose that went to the charcoal trap
( or aircleaner lid trap some models )

you may need to cheat the solenoid
( single wire round can solenoid on a triangle base, on the vac secondary can side of the carb )


alternatively the coasting richer solenoid on the carb may be faulty,, or tricked open due to a faulty position switch ( if fitted )

these may help--

 

Evap line to the tank is open with a small filter on it.

The Fuel Bowl Vent Solenoid tried to catch fire. I eliminated it with a plug.

I have the upper vent nipple tied into the pcv system.

No rats nest.

Been running fine this way for a year :O)
