new SE: what to do with my 12As?

Well, I got an 85SE (for $1000), and I'm already spoiled by the extra power it has over my 3 12As. The blue 83 (in my avatar) will be due for an engine soon. If I get a streetport will it have about the same HP? How about if I add an RB header? What do I need to do to get comparable performance?

Since my 83GS is about 200 lbs lighter (at least) I wonder if a Sterling carb and RB header would make it comparable to the SE? I ask because I bought the 83GS new and I'm attached to it, but could use more power.

I ought to sell 2 of my 7s, and I'd like to keep the SE and the blue 83GS. (of course, I'll keep the REPU, which will be even better after I upgrade to electronic ignition).

Check it out, i have one of both rx7's 13b and 12a. when the vanity of new-ness wears off a bit you'll notice the -SE feels heavy while driving. The -SE doesn't have that much more power the 12a's it's all about low end torque. it's trippy, the -SE's. the 12a's spin up rpm's
fast, the RE-EGI spins up, but not as fast. you'll also notice the limits at full throdle and you can't do much to give the -SE more air/fuel,,,you'll see. promise !

maybe you can now see why i say the 12a rx7's handle like a go-kart, and the -SE's handle like an rx7.

After adding an 86-88 intake manifold and throttle body with the 5th&6th sleeve inserts (stock ports), I'd say the SE pulls way harder at higher rpm than any 12a I've ever owned.

The blue 12A is definetely a better winding-road car. It's 200-300 lbs lighter and the steering is much lighter. It's a kick to drive up the winding roads to the house. The SE steers like a truck (I'll have the frontend looked at next week). But I pulled out of HD and tromped it to move into traffic and it started fishtailing! 'course the tires are worn.

The SE seems to be mechanically sound, so I'll put a medium good paint job on it. Earl Scheib is about $600, but does NO wetsanding, so you get a lot of orangepeel. I'll try to find someone about $1000-$1500 to put a good finish on it. Maybe a silver pearl over the old silver metallic.
