New rotorhead
Hello all, Im fairly new with the rotary, it's the only engine im familiar with, i know more about it than the conventional ones. First off I have a 1st gen 1980 RX-7, ca model, and so far it's all stock, I do however, have a few questions about some mods I want to make in the future, I don't know much about different brand names and what they make, im learning though.. First a minor thing that happened is with the stock mazda carb, the charcoal filter on the lid started leaking charcoal into the carbs! I didn't think this would be too good of a thing so I emptied the charcoal out as of right now, and re-attached the lid, now should I get a seperate charcoal canaster and attached it at the hose leading off the top of the carb lid? of does it not really matter? thats one thing.
Another thing is I wanted to replace the stock fan/clutch with an electric one I found at racing beat, I heard you notice a bit of a difference usually around 10-15HP, does that sound right? what could be a downside to this? (the fan pushes about 5800 CFM and the dimensions are about the same from the stock fan)
Next I wanted to change the ring+pinion ratio, is this a good thing to do or not? I want a top speed of only around 100, I had it up to around 120-130 (not sure just guessing from experience with other cars and guessing from how far the needle on the 85mph gauge went past 85)
I was thinking of somewhere around a 5.4 or 5.5?
Are lightweight steel flywheels that great? I mean am I going to notice a pretty good difference in how fast it revs up?(and if I get this I wanted to also invest in a dual grip clutch system)
Last, I was looking at a supercharger, can't remember where I saw one, it was a kit, maybe from atkins rotary? Are these damaging to the engine or would I be fine with one? Also I know if I get this I will need a new intakemanifold and new carb right?
Ok those are my main things I had in mind, Like I said I am still learning about all of it and I'm still young enough to be taught
What other things could I do that would make a big difference? Small things mainly, like how the fan works, I guess a new exhaust works good to from what I hear? If you cant answer any of this I'd like to have a few links to some resources I can use to get more familiar with the rotary.
One more prob! the otherday I went to start up the car after I had purchased a new battery and when I went to turn the key all i hear is the magnetic solinoid for the starter making a click, whats the easiest way to figure out if the starter motor has died or the wiring is faulty? (it's not locked up because me and a bud push started it)
