No way guys, its easy to do.

Remove the shift ****, remove the shift plate, remove the old boot, put the new one on, reattch the clips, or screws depending on year, and reassemble.

Uh, usually by removing the clips you break at least half of them (or the half that is left in my case)

heres what i did:

Cut a wire hangar. Shape it to be a slight ammount bigger than the hole beneath the surround. Take the shift boot, and put it on the outside of the frame. Wrap the flaps around the wire frame, and staple them (glue, whatever's clever) back onto itself.

Now put foam underneath (i used the bed foam type egg carton stuff) to hold it flush against the surround. put the surround back on, shift **** back on, and bango. you got it.

If you break the clips just use a good grade silicone, allow it to over nite and presto no more problems.
