Question New rotary motors?

I am with a 1980 needing a motor and I cannot seem to find parts for it. Is there a place that sells new or new old stock parts for this chassis? I need motor parts mostly.

have u diagnosed the issue and concluded it needs an engine or r u going by what the PO told u?

only option is to rebuild what u have. rebuild kits and all the seals can still be gotten from places like racingbeat, atkins rotary, or mazdatrix. rotor housings and side plates, if needed, can be gotten in good used condition. pull it apart, find out what's needed, and place a parts wanted in the classifieds. good luck man.

the 12A is the easiest (and coolest) engine to build in the world, its very basic, and all the parts are big

i should say that Mazda sells engines for the Rx8 and FD. the FC engines you can buy all the rotors and housings, and then the only 1st gen housings you can still buy are the GSL-SE

it is possible they could make another run of something, they are looking to re-issue parts they think they can make money on, and they do have a whole rotary engine factory that only makes rotary engines....

That would be a tremendous shot for the 1st Gen world if they re made 12A housings and irons. They made of bunch of Miata parts available again for that crowd, I have some hope they will do something similar for Rx-7's at some point. It was only their flagship car for like 15 years.

they specifically said they were looking to do more than the miata, which means Rx7. and since the FD is well supported, and the FC people only buy used parts, that means the 1st gen...

Sounds like Goopy has had good success re-chroming 12a housings to keep the old engines going.

Occasionally NOS 12A housings come up for sale but they are ridiculously expensive. The chrome on 12A housings is horrible anyway, so I wouldn't bother to be honest. What most people now do in Australia is buy new 13B housings from a s5 T2 engine or 13BREW, then have them cut down to 12A size. There are a number of machining shops specialising in this in Australia and I recall someone does it in the US too. Better than rechroming IMO as you get the better surface coating of the newer housings, but the downside is that you lose the original MAZDA 12A stampings.

you must really love the 12A if you arent just going to do a 13b swap at that point.

My bro-in-law has 13B street cars (FC and FD) but only uses 12A's in his bracket cars. He's not nostalgic or anything, just thinks they are better.

where do you get rotors? cut the 13B ones down too :goofy:

in California, where we still have a stupid emissions test, the FD swap has turned into the viable option (rx8 would too i think), FD parts are the easiest to come by, and its emissions friendly and it makes power

I bought a used motor for $150 in California. Hoping it’s got good parts inside but if not there’s still enough there to break even. You can find them every now and then decently. But it’s a crap shoot what’s inside.

Often it is for legality reasons. in Australia engine conversions usually require an accredited engineer to sign off on the conversion and the car may have only been certified for a 12A. In most states, there are capacity/weight limits for conversions and for older lighter cars (R100, 1200, 1300, 808, RX3 etc) 12A is the biggest engine a person was allowed to fit.

Saw some stuff here not too long ago, have no idea though. You’d have to call and ask.

Some other stuff on there, but I’m not 12A proficient to know how applicable they may be.

12A's Rule.

13B's Suck.

That's why 12A rotary housings are so expensive.

Add a Nikki and you're in Rotary Heaven.

Yeah, all that extra torque in the midrange sound terrible.
