new radiator, now car isnt getting hot

my old radiator had a hole in it, so we bought a new 3 core radiator and put in in there. well we noticed the heater still isnt blowing very hot. the upper hose is getting hot, but the lower hose isnt. the car has a new t-stat, and i believe the cooling fan is stock. would it be the new radiator causing this, or can the problem be elsewhere

thanks in advance

Mine runs great with a three core and my heat is very good. Is the new t stat actually closing.

Make sure the T-stat is OEM, I have heard of problems from lesser brand T-stats.

The radiator had nothing to do with the heater working or not.
The bottom hose is not supposed to get hot, that is where the fresh cool coolant enters the motor to cool it back down and the hot water is expelled thru the top.
What temp does the gauge read?

Hmm, My lower radiator hose is hotter than the top one. I think my thermostat is bad though. Can that cause this? I don't mean to jack the thread but I thought I might ask. The temp gauge takes a while to go up and when its fully warmed up lately it goes a little more than half way.

Sounds like the tstat is missing, in wrong, or is the wrong one. Sounds like its always flowing water though the radiator instead of letting it sit in the block to soak up the heat load. Make sure the tstat is in and its a OEM 180 degree with the little rattle pin thingy hole pointing up and the spring side is down in the tstat mount.

I don't know about specific trim levels, but according to Brian Long's RX-7 book, there were 33,563 RX-7s produced in 1985

Can we say thread jack? I thought so. Start your own thread to get a good answer if you need to, but first look in the FAQ section for the answer and search the archives to see if its already been answered.

Mike, don't mean to be a party-pooper or anything but this is someones thread about their heater not working. It's important that people realize that we need to open up our own threads if we have different questions. When people do a search for a particular problem that the thread is cluttered up with off topic subjects.

And you will get faster more accurate info when you open your own specific thread.

well the temp gauge only raises up 1/4th of the way. i started a thread about that a while back, and everyone seemed to think that was normal. though the car is missing the lower part to the front bumper, it doesnt get any hotter sitting at idle. the cooling fan is always on, is that normal?

No that is not normal and sounds like your problem.
The fan clutch is supposed to engage only when it gets to a specified temp. When the temp is cold and up to a certain degree the clutch should freewheel. If it is not it is defective. This will make the engine run cooler then normal and also it will put a major damper on your MPG.
