yeah, it does it either way, so i'm pretty sure it's not transmission related.

I guess you can try the seafoam to help clean up your engine like Kentetsu suggested.

yeah, that's also one of the next steps, I'm hoping I can solve this out without bringing it to the dealer.

Well you've pretty much gone through your whole car. YOu haven't mentioned any other problems so your car must be pretty solid at this point. That's good!

hey i have a similar sound that happens around 6500 rpms its like a vibrating or loud humming untill about 7k, but it only happens when its cold out and my engine is cold it goes away after it is warmed up. im interested in what this is too it doesnt seem harmful and i know my engine is good with 31000 miles on it. if seafoming seems to help thats one big thing that i think would be a factor since i do alot of city driving carbon build up could be the culprit.

Yeah, mine doesn't go away, I think it might actually be starved for fuel I'm checking the flow on the carb tonight to see if it's hitting that point and possibly the secondaries might be clogged and causing the problem.

Found a local guy here who recommened that and he's been working with the rotaries since the rx-3 was two years old so I've been picking his brain.

Final Update:

Turns out it was something in the fuel system, it was definately a function a running lean. I ran a can of seafoam through it and put some higher octane fuel in as well. Running great now, the sound and feel is completely gone.
