new ignitor...

Alright, before I get pelted with "search first" I did...a lot. about 5 hours worth.

85' with msd6al + 3 blaster coils.

My tach wasnt working... searched and found the problem. i dropped a new ignitor in and now it is working. cool.

Downside is it drives like complete crap. If I get into it, there are multiple small crackling backfires above 3500 rpm but if drive normally it is almost bearable. Emphasis on almost...

Ive tried adjusting the timing but nothing spectacular.

What is going on?

Im about to take the stupid thing back off and blow my gas with no tach like i was before...

Thanks in advance and please don't ream me with search em's, it hurts my self esteem.

Any help is better than no help!

cluster wha? no shorts. it ran pretty good actually. just horrible gas mileage as always.

*quick edit*

cluster... took me a second. all the gages work fine now that i replaced the ignitor. it just runs like junk over 3500 rpm.

Any chance that during your troubleshooting, you ended up routing the cables the wrong way? Firing the wrong plugs at the wrong time? Also, make sure the distributor cap is on straight.

update: Who could be so stupid to put the distributor in wrong? (me)

Runs a hell of a lot better in all gears and rpm. Although when i shut it off (i have a killswitch for the msd box) it keeps running on the trailing.

Its a little annoying but i would much rather have to shut it off manually and get better gas mileage.
