Question New audio system?

I would like to replace my stock audio system with an after market system.

- I would like to know who replaced the stock with after market system.

- What did you replace? (Head unit / speakers / amp)

- List complete replacement system and cost.

- Any problems installing new system?

- Was it worth it?

I replaced everything with replacements that were supposed to bolt right in... the speakers did just fine, but the stereo didn't... I had to shave off the side of the plastic piece, and bend the metal support in the back so that it would slide in. It sure as hell isn't moving, though!!!

JVC LX1100 ?? I think that's it. CD player with sub controls... (to be installed later) - $269.00 on sale for $179.00

Alpine Speakers. Sounds great!! 100.00 for all 4

still working on the subs.. Have the speakers - JVC- 50 bucks for 1 10"
(I don't need something that will blow my ear drums out)

Contact Iotus - he has the most bad-*** stereo system in a rex that I have ever seen. He is also who I have been talking with on mine.

I didn't go as far as phiber... but i got a pioneer p5200 (something like that) head awhile ago and got alipine speakers all around AND got a Kove armageddon 12" with a Kove 500 watt amp. (this is enuf for me )

installation of the head was very painful... i got a kit from wal-mart and had to do much to the kit to get it to fit VERY nicely... I'd be happy to post pics of my masterpiece if you want...

I got the head unit kit from a local shop and it is the schoche (sp?) brand, and it seems to be alot better fitting compaired to others I have tried

FuLLsMoKe: How does the Kove sub hit? I have heard good things about their products

Rotary13B1: Nice install! I'm in the progress of doing that same design, I have the fibreglass bottom end to sit in the rear made and the wooden cover.

I did a basic DIY install.

Cheap JVC KD-S590 headunit. ($104 including shipping from eBay)

Radio Shack 16 gauge speaker wire to all four corners; misc. parts and tools. (~$20)

2-way Infinity Kappa speakers; 4" front and 6-1/2" rear. (~$140 including shipping from eBay.)

Total:
~$270 about $20 than I wanted to spend but hey, I'm happy with it. I can pretty much crank the sound loud enough on the hiway without fear of blowing my speakers.

Biggest problem was getting the antenna to work and I still don't have any power to the head unit in accessory mode, but am learning to live with it. So watch your wiring. Doing it yourself will save a chunk of money but, it might not do everything it's supposed to do.

To get the power antenna working, connect it to a blue wire in a 3 prong harness which has 1 red and 2 blue wires, one of the blue wires can be used for accessory power and the other need to be sending 12v from the deck to raise to antenna

Installing yourself can take time, and save you alot of money, but the best reason is to get to know your car!

Remember this is specific to 84-85 With the stock clarion tape deck with EQ

Rex79, who did you're custom install where the bins used to be? I think that's an awesome looking setup, very clean, and I like what you've done with the black cover/carpeting in the back.

I absolutely love your setup, and I wanna get something like that when I get on my co-op next summer. I live 2 hours away in Ottawa, so if you can give me some refrences, I'd *definitely* use your guys to get that done to mine!! PM me.

Jon

i yanked out all the stock ****. and tossed in a kenwood comp. deck( no power output) slaped in 2 amps that are as wide as the hatch... with a false floor in th hatch so they are flush mounted. put in kenwood excelon 6.5" in the rear stock spots, infinity kappa 4.2(i think) componants 4" in the stock kick pannel and 1.5" tweets flush in the doors. and a pair of kicker L7 solobarics in the rear against the tail lights... 8"
its all steath.... if you cant see it you wont want to steal it.... ive had 3 diffrent setups "removed" with out my sayso. when people ask me what i have in the car... cuz it does hit hard... not overkill bass but it can if you ajust a little bit..... i just tell them what do you see? its stock other than a kenwood deck hell even with the hatch openyou dont see the subs and im running all kenwood excelon power. a 955 deck 501 and 301 amps
