Question Need more info on my 12a

I have been reading the faq section and came across the 2-cycle motor oil topic. I have been a 7 owner since May 06, and I have never used 2-cycle motor oil in the gas. The only thing I use is carburetor and fuel injector cleaner and I do this every 3 tanks of gas. Is this hurting my engine? Does the 2-cycle oil mix with gas? And I’m also using 5w30 oil should I be doing this in summer driven car? What should I use with my engine it has 68,085 miles on it?

If you guys could give me a straight up answer I will greatly appreciate it. Reading forums about this topics is to hard for me to understand, because all it is debate. Every now and then I drive my 7 hard if it helps.

Thanks:
Chris

How often will I have to put the 2-cycle oil in the gas? Then 5oz for 10gal.

First off, you only need to premix oil in your gas if you have a reason to believe your MOP (Metering Oil Pump) is not functioning correctly or is worn out. On an engine with 68K on it I doubt this is the case. The MOP supplies a small amount of oil from the engine to the carbureter to be mix into the gas as part ofthe combustion. This extra oil supplies lubrication to the rotor seals as they turn in the engine. So unless your MOP is known to be bad or out of adjustment, you probably don't need to premix.

Using 5w30 in the summer in MI is probably fine, its not really ever hot enough up there to require a thicker oil. Your current regimen of using carb/injector cleaner every 3rd tank is probably fine if a little overkill.

Sounds like your taking good care of the car as it is and it should stand up pretty well to the occasional redline or two per day. Make sure you change the engine oil often. I normally change when it starts to get about 1/2 quart down. The oil is part of the cooling system and once it starts to break down you engine can overheat much easier.

the 2 cycle will do a better job of lub'ing the internals than the oil drawn from the crankcase by the omp, it will also burn alot cleaner/leave fewer deposits behind than the engine oil does.
leaving the omp connected and premixing will not hurt anything. it just affords you a little bit of insurance.

Except it lowers your octane further which has its own affects and blows even more carbon through the engine which will tend to cause even more carbon deposits than just the mop alone. Plus the two cycle in the gas can have harmfull affects on the fuel system, some fuel filters in particular.

If your mop is working properly there's no good reason to premix in my mind. You should check your mop function at least once a year to make sure its ok. Its easy enough to do.

I can see why a track car would premix as the mop is usually removed to eliminate yet another potential failure point from the engine.

Personally, I run the OMP and 1/2oz per gallon premix. When the OMP line started leaking, I was damn glad I did.
As for more carbon, well, I changed the plugs after 10K miles, and they were clean.
I prefer to have the added insurance of the 2 stroke oil in the gas, since the car is 23 years old, and has over 200K on it.
Common myth is that 2 stroke oil is "Designed to burn". Not true. When was the last time you changed the oil in a weedeater? 2 stroke oil is designed to be able to lube, even in the combustion chamber, without leaving deposits. Most 2 stroke engines do not have any other oil to lube the crankcase, and relies on the oil in the gas to lubricate the entire crankcase. The smoke is from the excess oil exiting thru the hot exhaust.
