need to know what bone to pick

I am going to the bone yard tomorrow and I have been told that there are a 87 and an 88 bearly touched. I don't know anything about 2nd gens or whats best out of them for my '85. I have a 12A and was hopeing to get some type of direct ingniton system from them, if possible. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Is it even possible to have a 12A with that set up?

I am soo tired of breaking rotors and caps because they clamps that hold the cap in place seems to bounce around from time to time.

Thanks for all ya helps.

You can grab the leading coil off the second gen and do this - https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=243350

other than that, i'm not sure what else you can use from the 2nd gen...

i don't know how the oil cooler and radiator compares to the 85 one, but there's something.
if it's a turbo... engine and tranny.
5 lug hubs and 4 pistons calipers if you want to fabricate your own setup to make them work.
at least, that's all i'm doing.

I will attemp to get the leading coil and igniter? That direct fire mod looks interesting, I wonder if I can do it. I hope its not too expensive. I don't know much about electrical stuff and would hate to destroy something I paid alot for. I have a cell phone with a cam. I guess I would try and make a tread getting help from everyone, I could post pics and ya can tell me what to do next. That way the tread can be used over and over.

I wish I could do something like that for the nikky mod of the secondaries. I hate being the guy that needs over kill with help for every mod just because I don't know what the typical names of certain parts are.

If they are t2 I am taking the whole car t2s are very hard to find up here, even blown ones. I also need to get down and dirty and pull some rear axles. I did a tail whip and hit the edge of a curb, blew the tire and bent that side all to hell. What did I tell my friend that was coaxing me for a race.. whoops.. i hate this upid shifter.. sometimes it doesn't take a shift.

edit:
humm.. alt mod.. to a 80-100amp alt. I am not sure I can handle the oparation.

the ignitor should not be expensive. $20 or less.

The S4 alt is plug and play. You will need to thin the bushing a bit to get it to slide into place. The fuse block isn't hard at all and is a good upgrade.

The S4 oil cooler is better than the hard to find GSL-SE's, the bungs are thicker and don't crack as easily. Look next week for a write up on installing one. Grab the oil lines, oil filter mount and banjo bolts too.

I have the gsl-se's oil cooler in my car now. As well as the doors. In anycase maybe I will pick it up just incase I hit a tree or something.

What about the steering should I pick that?

You stated above that you are going to get the rear axles from the 2.gen? No use, will not fit a 1.gen at all.

However, there is a possibility in grabbing the whole front suspension. It can be fitted to a 1.gen with slight modifications to the front of your car.

Ooops. I meant to say that the leading coil was about $20. Ignitors, I agree.

No, I was going to look for a 1st gen rear end. Things are getting very scarce around here as far as 1st gens go. More and more 2nd gens are ending in the bone yard though.

Drunclever; definitely grab the leading coilpack. That mod is not too difficult, I'm sure that you can do it.....

Oil cooler, front brakes (I think you need struts and all, someone help me out with this).

Grab a radiator tooooooo! You're gonna want it sooner or later.

And keep your eyes open for a good electric fan. Man, wish I could find a car around here to strip, but my only choice is a '86 that's already been picked clean...Good luck and happy stripping!
