Guess we're in the same boat....when I did my initial search, I found plenty of threads about '84-85's, but not much about my car...'83.

Try the search button here's what I came up with using stereo + Installation:

good luck

Download the 85 Factory Service Manual from one of these sites.
http://foxed.ca/foxed/index.php?page=rx7manual
http://wright-here.net/cars/rx7/manuals.html

Audio information starts on page 600 of the pdf file.
The audio system wiring diagram starts on page 686.
There are three power plugs behind the head units.

J-03 is a three terminal plug with Red/green, Blue and Blue/Green wire. Red/green is for the illumination lights, Blue comes from J-04 and Blue/green goes to the power antenna relay.

J-04 is a 6 terminal plug with only 4 terminals used. Blue/yellow is constant 12V, Blue/white is switched 12V, Red/green is illumination lights, Blue is from J-03.

J-05 is a single terminal with Blue/yellow wire with constant 12v power.

When I did my stereo install in my last car I ran new speaker wires and bypassed the amps. You will get better sound that way.

All I did when I installed mine was I ran all my power wires to the ciigarette lighter so the cd player turns on when the car turns on. And then I just ran a red and black wire to each speakers to bypass all the old wiring the hardest part of it is hiding the wires. easiest part is hooking it up. You can buy these wires at walmart for a couple dollars and rewire the whole car.
