need help with muffler

hey guys i got an 82 with a mindtrain header on it and just went down to the local exhaust shop and got them to run a 2.5" pipe all the way back and i had a choice of a glass pack or a flowmaster muffler cause thats all they had but the flowmaster was like $80 more so i got the shitty glass pack but i need to know what would be a good muffler to put on it because it sounds like a a pist off be right now and i hate it

If you want a bullet-proof muffler that will sound great and last forever, Racing Beat is the way to go. Some guys use the Borla muffler and have had success with it. Other than that, most mufflers are short lived because of the high temp of the rotary. You can try a flowmaster if that's all you can afford, but it won't last a long time. In the end, you will actually save money by buying the RB muffler.

Rock on man. Definitely go with either RB or Borla. I have all borla on mine and it screams! I'll post some youtube videos when I get home, or just look up Stueck12a.
Where in Charlotte are you? I am off Independence and Margaret Wallace. Send me a PM.

Borla.

It's cheaper than the RB, flows better and will last just as long.

Oh, they also sound better.

That said, you really outta have a silencer or two installed to quiet that beast down some. No single muffler will be adequate for a street-driven rotary. Racing Beat now sells a 'generic' RB silencer that would be worth a try, and the price is right.

You want loud, run that bitch open header for 20 minutes.
Guarantee you it'll **** off even those custom Chopper owners.

Yea Rusty's exhaust is well. rusty with holes and leaks on the gasket. I was thinking about running it open header for a while lol..

I did see this on the google search.

Has anyone ever tried this Monza system?

The racing beat universal mufflers sound good also. I have the 2.5" in my 73 RX-3 and my bro's RX-4 has teh 3". Price wise, $90s to $110. I dont know how long tehy will last tho. Instead of the straight muffler tip, a had the shop install a shortened turn down tip ala aussie style.

I'd like some proof that Borla outflows RB with the same noise output. RB mufflers flow very well, especially the streetport version. And a single RB muffler on the rotary will be just fine for the street, so long as there is thickwalled piping to take out the metallic pinginess.

Yeah Moses, I would like some proof as well.

Borla outflowing RB? Yes.

Sound output the same? HELL NO lol.

Borla is louder than RB, but more free flowing. Tick for tack, take your pick.

And honestly, If you went thickwall, which I wanted... and went Borla as well, I don't think you will notice. Don't hold me to that though. Borla free flow mufflers are louder than any Extra super ultra thinwall piping metallic pingness will ever sound. I have generic muffler shop piping, and all I hear is MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Yea I didn't think the pacesetter was going to be all that great. For one I have zero interest in performance modding. Just looking for something cheap to replace the rusted existing exhaust. I don't want to spend Borla or RB money on this junker but I also don't want the muffler or cat to fall off while I am driving.

I would (and did) go for the RB cat back, very nice sound when you are at WOT and very quiet at idle/cruising speeds

I've always used a dual tip magnaflow and a presilencer and been pleased, 2 years behind a supercharged ported 13b and holding up well. http://media.putfile.com/bridgeported-supercharged-13b http://media.putfile.com/BRIDGPORTED-13B-COMPILATION

Well, there's two sides to this one. If you want performance and a completly factory fit, then the RB is probably worth it because you won't have to pay someone to install it. If you aren't adverse to fabbing then it's cheaper to go custom with a Borla. Sure the Borla will be louder than the RB, but they're one of the best flowing mufflers out there and the price really cant' be beat.

No arguments there

Also, doing a Borla system will give you preformance as well.

That's why I asked proof of a Borla outflowing an RB with the same noise output LOL. You have to remember though with an NA rotary, the best flow is not always the best performer. If you don't know what I mean, run one on open header and see if it's quicker than a full stock system
