Need Help: Lights Won't Work
Need help guys...I have an 85 GSL SE...I can't figure out why my headlights don't turn on or flip up. Brake lights work, turn signals work and hazards work. My wipers come on and then stop half way up the glass. When I flip the light switch on the cluster lights don't come on either. I've checked all the fuses and the links and they are good. I am stumped and any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

fusible link on the retractor box thingy. check it. IIRC correctly its near the driver side strut tower, or is that the main fusible. cant remember but check the fusible links

Thanks kentetsu The switch on the dash that flips the lights up don't work either. It makes a weird humming noise. Do you think the combo switch would cause this problem?

No, if the manual switch won't raise the lights either, then the issue lies elsewhere. Check in the FAQ section for the Factory Repair Manual (FSM). They have a very good troubleshooting section in there for this issue. Good luck!

The retractor motor plugs have four wires. The White/red should be 12V all the time. The red should be 12V when the lights are turned on/up and 0 volts when they are turned off/down. The red/yellow should have 0 volts when the lights are turned on/up and 12v when they are turned off/down. Is this what happens in your car?

How did you check your fusable links - i had one that was burned internally but worked mostly... Caused the previous owner of the car to sell as it would randomly stop.

I just had this problem in my car. I replaced the fusible link wires with "bussam fusible links" i think thats what there called.. and when i did that the internals of the fuse box moved to the rear of the box making my links not have a good connection. my lights wouldn't work nor would they go up but everything else worked as you described. check the fusible link box its more than likely in there.
