TX Need help to ID an unknown relay!

What exactly does this relay in front of the battery control? When i got my car i rescued it from a field where it was parked for 10 years and apparently critters ate the wiring and the plug for this relay and i need to find out what it controls...

Please see the picture attached. The relay in question is circled in RED. I am still digging through the 84 wiring diagrams to find out what it is but i figured someone would know off hand.

Thank you all in advance!

That's where the Oscillator on my '82 GSL is. Don't know if the '84 has it. Still not sure what it actually does! LOL Maybe a horn relay? Try running stuff and see what doesn't turn on!

Same in the '84. Check section C of the 84 wiring diagram. You'll see the oscillator identified at C-05.

Think this oscillator part of the chime circuit. (headlight warning , low coolant warning)

Good luck finding one - about 10 years ago, I replaced the Oscillator in my 84SE from Larry Miller Mazda in Glendale, AZ, and the parts guy had to order it. He also commented that there were only 5-6 in the US at that time, and that was 10 years ago.

Some good news; I installed it based on the wiring diagram and to this day have no idea whether it works or not. The diagram shows it working in conjuntion with some kind of warning buzzers behind the dash, but not the tach over-rev buzzer, as that always worked just fine, even after my Oscillator was totally corroded by battery acid...

So, you may not need one, afterall. Knowing what I know now - I wouldn't have replaced mine at about $50 cost!

You may want to check Ebay. ID the "rx7addict" he has allot of 1st gen stuff and I just ordered this part from him. I have purchased stuff from him before and always have had good luck.

I am curious does your head light chime work at all with this bad part ?

I have been trying to get my headlight and low coolant chime to work again. I know I have a bad CPU (blown diode) and this oscillator did not look that good. I'm in the process of getting another CPU and oscillator. Hope that is it but just wondeing if any sound is comming out of yours with the oscillator being bad or disconnected.

Everyone agrees this is the Oscillator. when i had the headlights up and door open no chime. car off and lights ON and door open... NO chime...

So i would tend to agree with you on this.

thank you all.. I will have to do a write up on fabricating an oscillator for this car... should take me a week to research and find the diagram for it.

Thanks!

TX To verify

I have started tearing apart the front end so i may put in my FC oil cooler etc... I removed the offending object and after much cleaning it does indeed say in white printed letters "Oscillator" on the side...

Debate ended. However I have changed my mind on the fabrication of a new one. I just don't have the time right now and want my 7 on the road before winter so I am not going to sidetrack myself with the oscillator

Thanks all!
