Slow power window switch

I had to clean the switches on my 84 GSL. I know my 83 has different switches, so while similar these pictures won't match pre 84 cars. These pictures can also be found here http://intertron.com/ron/pw.html

Here is a good writeup about adding relays to help avoid doing this again

The driver side switch contacts (the ones pictured) were so dirty the window would not move in either direction. Of course it was 3/4 down and it was 2PM. In most of Florida, in the Summer, that means the storm clouds are forming. That's why the first picture is of the door wires. I used an extra battery and got the window up just before the storm started. I used 400 grit sandpaper and an exacto to clean the contacts. I would have used my small file if I could find it

It is pretty easy to do. If you look closely you'll notice the workbench was the driver's seat.

I probably have extra motors. PM if you decide you need one

yeah mine was the same way they were so dirty that you looked into it and you couldn't tell the contacts appart from the plastic itself lol, the passenger's side wasn't too bad but it made a huge difference once i cleaned them up.

I had windows that operated slowly, and the thing I did that made them speed up considerably was to grease all the parts in the power window mechanism, and use silicone spray on the channel guides on each side of the window. I would sure recommend doing this in conjunction with cleaning the switches. I was amazed at how much just lubricating everything increased the speed.

i just greased up all the links and all the internals in the window motor on driver's side, and WOW, that's all i have to say, the difference is huge! i love the easiness and the quietness lol, i couldn't find a "how to" on this, i still have to do the passenger's side, is anyone interested? i could take some pics along the way just so you know what to look for and stuff , unless someone else wants to do it lol.

Okay, here's another question I have in terms of slow moving windows, which I will probably face when rebuilding my car (as soon as this damned rain stops for a few days )

What other window motors would work?

Perhaps, lubing, relaying, and putting more efficient window motors from another car would not give so much trouble?
