Need help going top less :) Pics!

Ha! Made you look! LOL. While you are allready here, read on.

Here's an idea that I got from MIKE-P-28.
It consists of cutting a hole in my roof 1 inch bigger than the stock GSL-SE's sunroof. Then on the GSL-SE, cut the roof's skin. I'm thinking at the roof's body line, but not sure. Then basically dropping the skin on top of my GS's roof, weld, and fill at the roof line, then install the GSL-SE's roof liner on my GS. I never realized how nice and big the RX7's sunroof is. I like it and would like to put it in my GS.

For those who think I should not take the risk and just get a GSL-SE and be safe to avoid all the work go here: Disney Where everything is safe.

I'm not gonna go thru this with another car:

It's mint and rust free and i want a sunroof. So what u think?

My GS, that became the widebody, has an aftermarket sunroof. When I got the car, it still had an untouched headliner as the po apparantly couldn't figure out how to cut and install it. Took me a while to figure it out too, eneded up taking the sunroof out, then tracing the hole on the headliner, cutting the hard board out, while still leaving enough fabric to wrap around the exposed edges for finish.

Long story short. Find a good aftermarket one that you like, or find an exceptional body man. The roof, once cut, is flimsy. I still have a divot in the roof, just from pressing too hard sanding while the sunroof frame was out.

You know, I have not seen an aftermarket sunroof I like. It has to be the original or non. I have a plasma torch for the cuts, and Carlos for the body work, so I hope this is possible.

But I know what you mean about the flimsy roof.

The roof in the SE might be aftermarket. All FB's were the same roof. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought SA had the small sunroof and all FB's were the same.

Thanks for putting me on HIS level!

I just happen to by CyborgRyu's personal *** kicker when it comes to women. He has a tendency to get hung up on the entirely wrong type of girl.

My vote is not to do it. Even though two of my 7's have them, my first on had one, my DD has one... I'd much rather have a fixed top. Just a 101 thing less to go wrong and I think cars look better without them.

And like you said... your car is MENT, please don't hurt its feelings.

Kim I think you should be up to the task, all of your other projects have come out great so far so I say go for it. Personally I love the Glass sunroof it makes the inside of the car feel comppletley different.

With a car that mint I wouldn't risk it. No matter how good a body work guy you have, you'll still be able to tell, I'm sure.

I love having the sunroof, but if my car didn't have one I'd never cut it to put one in.

I assume you are not an experienced body man, just from the lines you have drawn. The roof should come all the way back and be welded down in the channel below the rear hatch. The windshield should be removed and the roof should come all the way to the front and be welded at the factory seam. In other words, don't patch it, replace the roof. If you aren't willing to go to that much trouble, don't do it, because it will never be a first class job.

the non sunroof cars are lacking the extra metal reinforcement nessisary to keep the chassis from flexing as much as possible, soooo if you cut your car up, you will have lots of extra unwanted flex.. not worth it, i vote no.. the pic of jessica naked...... DAAAAMM

don't do it to that shell
don't do it to that shell
don't do it to that shell
don't do it to that shell
don't do it to that shell.
If you want a shell to put a sunroof in, i'll trade you my current FB that has a stripped interior, just gotta give me time to pull the motor and trans. that shell should be either restored to a perfect original example, or made a widebody monster.
it's sooooooooo nice, i would KILL to find a rust free shell to work with. let me know if you want to trade or (PREFERRABLY) would be willing to sell that shell.

I vote don't do it.Any time you mess with the original structure of a car I think you are asking for troubles down the road.

I want a rag top like I see on some trucks and old VWs. If I ever get another FB/SA I think I might do that.

Lol, that's not her shell, that's her demonstrating what she doesn't want to have to go through again. That's her car at the start of her project. Now that the project is completed, if she wanted to switch it over to a car with a sunroof, she'd have to tear another car down to a shell like that and start from scratch.

That "shell" is no longer a shell, but a complete car.
