Need Help Fast!

Ok guys, I have to get this car running good enough to go 120miles in the next like day. Ive replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter and put new spark plugs in. Also has a new exhaust. Recently it started sputtering above bout 40mph....then dies. I am going to check the timing later today when I find a timing light. Also what is the correct firing order on the spark plugs? I just want to make sure I have it right.

The cap on the dizzy is marked L1, L2, T1, T2. Just follow the wires and make sure that they match up with the plug holes on the engine (which are marked in the same manner). Make sure that your battery connections are clean and tight (proper grounding) and check your plug and high tension wires for cracks.

Ok just fixed the wires on the cap. Still starts to sputter bout 55-60mph. Still looking for a timing light. Anyone else have any ideas? Also the first coil....does it go to L or T?

Most generally, the front coil *should* go to the trailing, unless someone has been tampering with them.
I know you listed the fuel filter as replaced, but have you double checked it? They can plug up fast after the car has been sitting for a while.

What kind of plugs do you have? Most use NGKs. Maybe a cracked dist cap, which is cheap and easy to replace. Even a cheap timing light will work: the timing marks are easy to see and access, tho sometimes they're filled with dark grease so you gotta find then with your fingernail, clean them out (there are 2) and maybe daub some paint. You may have a little snarf rolling around in the carb, but usually you can pump the pedal a time or two to clear it (sometimes an additive like MMO or Berrymans, etc., will clear it).

are you running a pressure regulator with the new pump? 4-7 psi is too high for you car (assuming it's carbed), you need to regulate it to 2psi or something (depending on what you are running).

Why do you assume we're all psychics and can read your mind? you don't even bother to mention what model car do you have. And you don't even bother to mention it in your public profile!

Assuming you don't have an SE, what kind of carb do you have? how old? has it ever been rebuilt? if a Nikki, does it have vacuum or mech secondaries? is the gas tank the original one and has it ever been cleaned?
