Question name this part...

85gsl, to the rear of the thermostat housing there is a black pushrod plastic thing with a wire and a screw head on it,,,is this the TPS, what does it do and how is its adjusted,,,and what are signs of needing adjustment,,,,

Im not quite sure what you are describing...the thermostat is within the water pump.
And since you have a GSL and not an SE, your engine is carbed and not fuel injected, hence no TPS.

Hmm, not quite sure what you're describing, but that "switch" that you move aside when doing the mechanical secondaries mod is the throttle sensor.

It is definitely a part of the cruise control system. I'm not sure it serves any other purpose though.

Sounds like the TPS. Look in the haynes or FSM for adjustment.

Im not sure if its tied to the CC system. But I do know its part of the emissions system for acceleration/deceleration controls.
