NA engine swap?

Hi,
I have a 1980 SA and was thinking of putting in a non-turbo 13B (89-91).
Is there anything better for flat, but hight, torque curve?
Any trick setups by combining different motor parts?
I'm not going turbo and I would like to stay with carbs.
I like high compression but not into porting until I'm more familiar.
Thanks,
Vin

I don't get it?

Did I ask a stupid question?
I'm guessing the responce is because I want to use carbs?

I can get a non-turbo 89 13B for a good price. Isn't this going to be better than a 12A, even if I still use carbs? But, I don't want to bother if there is a better engine option.

Please help. Thanks,
Vin

i read for a 12a ..it depends on the header length..if you have longer header ..and don't quote me..i think as long as to where the downpipe connects to the main part of the exhaust ..the difference is supposed to be night and day.. like a new motor..

well...

Well, I have the longest header RB makes, but I think the O.D. is too big.
I will admitt that my low end torque is better than when I bought the car.
BUT, my low end torque was very bad when I bought the car.

So is that a NO for the non turbo 89 13B?

Thanks,
Vin

sounds like a good idea. i plan on using my s4 n/a 13b in my 83' gs one of these days, hopefully i will keep it controlled with fuel injection. should be really fast as our fb's are what maybe 2300 lbs. and the s5 n/a fc is like 2800 lbs. so losing 500 lbs. should help out a lot. think about it, how fast does a bridgeport 12a run? bridgeport 12a and the s5 n/a probably have around the same power output, with a header.

s5 turbo engines are better for NA, when using high compression rotors. If you will eventually port it, you should buy and t2 engine, run it for a while, then buy s5 NA rotors (9.7:1) and port it, with headers and intake you should be pushing about 185-190 at the wheels.

Ya

Sounds like some good ideas!
T2 motors seem to be cheaper to get too.
So if I can get a non-turbo S5 for $700 with low miles and all peripheries I should NOT get it and wait for a T2?- And then I should be looking for high comp. rotors.
Does that sound like the best plan?

okey dokey......

First off, since you want to go N/A...

If your going N/A, then you can go with a GSL-SE 13b, and put 12a end plates, and an 12a intermediate plate to make a 4-port 13b. Port the motor however you want...

OR...get a S5 13b which has high comp. rotors already, and get TII end plates, and a TII intermediate plate, and port the motor however, and there you have another way to make a 4-port 13B that is good for N/A power....

(You will need to match counterweights, and flywheels to the above motors as well I believe, there are others here that can inform you better on these options....)

Also, as far as which carbs. and etc. Others here can anwer that better as well. My suggestions are kind of just a generalization of two initial N/A motor setups...

Ok

OK, that's a lot of info!
I don't want to go turbo.
When I say low end for a rotary I'm thinking 3500rpm.

Sounds like T2 motor with a rotor swap to get higher comp. is a good way to go, but why not use six ports with the port actuators (probubly silly question)?

Thanks,
Vin
