Unless you have performed the internal mods diring the rebuild, i.e., oil mods, lightening and balancing, stay under 8k for engine longevity. It wouldn't hurt to put it on a dyno to find where the powerband lies.

None of your mods listed would affect the engine redline. If, like Trochoid said, you modified the internals some, go for it. If not I would stay to the factory 7K.

S5 NAs have lighter rotors, hardened stationary gears and a factory redline of 8k. Without oil mods and balancing, I'd stay with 8k. I suggested the dyno due to the porting. Powerband will be little different than a stock S5 and more tuneable with the Haltech.

yea i have a bone stock 83 Fb base model 12a 5spd. where should i shift? the motors got 178K miles on it and the seals between the housings are starting to go. I know this thanks to some help from you guys and other members by cleaning off the oil between the housings letting it run and checking for oil again. also the my beehive oil cooler's o rings have gone because I noticed decent amounts of oil on the far back drviers side housings under the oil cooler. ummm. It's got the stock carb....Rasts Nest...Thermal Reactor...and the clutch is going ummm.....i wanna know a safe rev to shift at that wont hurt the rear end Cause i was told that the drumbrake rear end is the one major weak link the cars driveline....and also a rev that wont put any more excessive wear on the housing oil seals...and most importantly since the car has the original flywheel and clutch on it (178K miles) I want a rev that is safe enough to where i don't have to worry so much about the flywheel coming up through the floor and cut my legs or head or a valuble limb off.....Even though it's worth losing a limb since I was actually able to find and buy my dream car....!!!!!
And if it's any more help I live in West Palm Beach, FL

Drive easy. Don't drive hard until you can get a rebuild. If this is your DD, or even your fun car, take it easy. Get a rebuild. Shift at 2500-3000. Max milage and takin it easy on the car.

Nate: you can get rebuild kits Mazdatrix or Atkins Rotary. Dan Atkins posts here frequently, so I would say give him your money

Aye, support Atkins, both know what they're doing but the customer service is unmatched by atkins, because as metioned, they post here and can get back to you quickly.

You are hijacking this mans thread Newbie. Now go and get some oil cooler O'rings, dump some Lucas oil stabilizer in the crankcase, put a new clutch setup in there and drive it until it no longer runs.

Oh, and if you have more questions, please start your own thread.
