I just wonder if your "builder" looked at all the possiblities (cost wise) before jumping into the project... Yours will probably be really sweet when you get done, but I am not sure if the method and all the fab work involved was needed.. check out this thread.. I know it's a little late but, it's worth reading...

Good luck and I can't wait to see your car up and running!

If you're using a 2nd gen 13b then that's more than likely why. I think he was talking about the SE 13b block. I remember him saying something about that when he was test fitting a TII intake to the SE block.

He is a great builder and I've loved the work his done so far. He has a great knowledge of rotories so I'm sure he knows what he's talking about.

hmmm that IC fits really well in there. And the build is looking good. I read an article once about a turbo GSL-SE I think that car had 160k-180k on it. If I recall correctly the car only lasted a few thousand miles. But he had the stock GSL-SE intake manifold. huh.

What size turbo are you running?

I am not trying to insult him, but I ran a GSL-SE intake manifold on my 2nd gen 13B.. They are very similar. Your setup will probably deliver Smoother power for sure.. But at $1200 in labor alone you could have purchased a s5 j-spec and wired it all up...

PLEASE don't take offense to my post I am not trying to belittle anyone or any project, I am just about to enter the same realm and am trying to figure out the BEST way for ME to complete the project.

compression tested your ride. The results are:

Front
127 (8.9)
123 (8.6)
123 (8.6)

Rear
115 (8.1)
114 (8.0)
114 (8.0)

Not to shabby for a engine with 160+ miles on it. No pictures or video yet, hopefully soon.

Looks good. I had sound,,sounds and looks much like mine. I have a first gem with a turbo 6 port 13B. Think your guys did a nice job,,my only concern is the I/C piping being so large. Bigger is not always better in some cases. Smaller pipe keeps the air velocity higher. Anyhow if it works good dont mess with it. Nice toy to come home too, enjoy it.

it rev's so much faster than it perviously did. I'm wondering if its because of the turbo or the new intake. Either way its sweet! The reason we went with bigger intercooler piping is because the turbo will be upgraded later. Is still not 100% but close, tuning is in process.

Well it still looks nice and its a sleeper! No rice in sight...I like that part a lot. Wait until you get a lighter flywheel and then rev it...lol. Also the GSL-SE has really heavy rotors so a light flywheel is a good idea..less e shaft flex under high RPM's. Wishin my first gem was red now. Good luck.

I've thought about getting a light flywheel but I'm not sure if I want to get one just yet since I'm debating on a TII tranny upgrade. I don't know what you consider rice... but yes my builder talked me into the TiAL blow off valve, he said that it wouldn't be ricey like others but said that it would function better than them. I decided function over sound. Thanks for the compliments!I'll be home from Iraq in 27 days give or take so I can't wait to drive it!

Update:

Well, runs good.

The bad news? The clutch won't hold the power. I need a clutch.

Right now with just the downpipe there is pretty good boost creep. It'll hit 12psi very quickly. My builder doesn't want it to go over 12 so he was very ginger in how he handled it. It will be hard to tune the car out without adding the rest of the exhaust to control the boost creep.

I'm now talking about a new clutch install. I'm thinking a ACT clutch however I've seen two clutches on ebay that says that they can hold the power. However I'm not sure about using clutches that i've never heard of before.

Yeah, with a standard wastegate you would have to make the exhaust very restrictive to control boost creep. I remember with my Jap import TII it would easily and regularly hit 14psi. From 3rd onwards you could only give it WOT for a short time. That's with standard injectors and ecu. Never did blow up though. lol Probably the high octance fuel and octane boost the only reason it stayed together.

I don't know if this was already covered, but which RX7 intake is that?

I'm now trying to decide what clutch to drop in. I'm thinking among the lines of a ACT since the one in my Talon never let me down. I know they make a stage 1 clutch kit for SE's but don't know about anything stronger. Also, the wastegate is ported! Yeah surprized the hell out of me when my builder was talking about the creep. The intake is a modified N/A S4 intake. I've spent so much money on this car LOL! this was supposed to be a low budget project... But hell... I can't stop buying parts! LOL! Still have the exhaust to get, tires and suspension.

Ok so heres the deal. Getting a ACT clutch and Racingbeat Aluminum flywheel. I'm going with a high flow cat to control the boost creep. Ordering monday so we'll see what happens!

the cat will not help the boost creep. just keep porting the wastegate bigger! i had to do it 3 times to get the creep to stop. it's now almost the size of the actual exhaust exit!!! but it's so easy, just takes a dremel and some patience. if you rely on your ehxaust/cat to stop it then you will need a VERY restrictive one. so say bye bye to the power.

I know its been awhile since I posted about the car but just got back to the states from Iraq the 10th. I'm finished demobilizing the 15th and I'm going to pick up the car the 16th and dyno it the 18th. Anyone want to try to guess my horsepower? Its running on 12lbs.
