My Tach Stopped Jumping...Finally
Well, the other day (almost a week ago)I re-adjusted my timing, and it hasnt jumped yet. I just thought I would share because I was so damn happy after dealing with it for so damn long. It still jumped after cheking wires, replacing plugs, replacing wires, new cap, rotor, swapping ignitors, new coils, everthing in the ignition system. I dont know why it did it, Im just happy its stopped!!

Actually, it was when I was trying my 20B dizzy with only one pickup hooked to both Leading ignitors. The other two (L2 and L3) were firing into the air so I could still get an accurate timing light on my 120 and 240 degree marked pulley. My Trailing circuit was disconnected for this test so I simply plugged the tach signal wire into one of my Leading coils. This is where the jumpy tach started. I just jiggled some wires and the jumpyness went away. Then it came back. I then plugged it onto the other Leading coil and that solved it.

If I were to reconnect my vacuum lines, do I need to reset my timing? Something is telling me not to, because above 4k RPM, there's no vacuum anyway. I've just never run with vacuum hooked up. When I upgrade to an electronic dizzy in my points vehicles, I just plug the vacuum nipple on the carb or manifold.

Whoa, who told you there's no vacuum above 4000 rpm? If that were true, the vacuum operated secondaries would never open. You may have to reset your timing after reconnecting the vacuum advance line. I did notice an increase in low/mid power after reconnecting my vacuum advance, but I haven't reset the timing yet.

Does yours jump alot more when you have a strong current draw on the electrical system?? Mine jumped alot at idle, but only when I was taxing the battery with full blower, rear defroster, and headlights.
