my 'SE idles at1100, quits at 2000

Working on this car for awhile now, given the symptoms i'm going to guess while putting it back together i've something plugged in wrong or not plugged in at all?

the high idle is similar to vacuum probs i've had with my 12a, but the cutout at 2000 is new.

oh and my new fuel pump is loud, easily audible over the engine noise- though i think thats a seperate issue, and hopefully just the brand of pump.

I recommend that you do a fuel pressure/volume test to determine if the fuel pump is working correctly. You should not be able to hear that pump. It sounds like it is cavitating alot(pushing air) instead of fuel.

THanks doc!

though after reading this thread:
84 gsl-se - fuel pump loud

i think i'm going to put off the loud fuel pump for now, until i can get the car running and get a full tank of gas in there.

Once the car runs i'll put a full tank of gas in it.

Still the engine dying at 2000 RPM's is a concern. its probably a vacuum leak somewhere, unless theres some known issue with the GSL-SE's i should also be looking at?

Did you disconnect anything else in the engine area?

no i don't believe i did. and looking around, i don't see anything that is obviously disconnected, which is why i am thinking i've knocked something loose, or disconnected and its not visually obvious?

Finally had time to look into it, Turns out that i left one of the new fuel hoses a bit long when i installed teh new fuel pump, so when i mounted it in the bracket and bolted it ot the car the lin became kinked.

This caused the spotty fuel delivery and that god awful "cavitation" sound, as well as the car dying at 2000 rpms, which was the result of being starved for fuel.

I knew it was likely mechanic error more than anything, i'm just happy it was a minor one
