I have all of the articles on my computer already. If you want those Paul just shoot me your email via PM and I'll email the 6 or 7 magazines that I have on soft copy.

No more updates as of yet. I'm ready for Cowboyfun to arrive so we can strip the paint and then re-paint it. I'm pretty much at a stopping point now.

Sorry guys, I've been in Guam for the last 38 days. No, no real updates to speak of. Work picked up so everything with this car got put on hold. The car will not be at SS10 this year. We'll be in my wife's '88 vert instead. But I do hope to get started on the Avatar again in the next couple of weeks. When that happens I'll be sure to keep this thread updated.

Cam, I'll be looking forward to meeting you at SS10 next month.

Thanks guys. I know that things will turn out nicely on this project. One thing I'm considering now though is to not redo the bondo on the rear of the car around the convertible top. A good friend of mine is a composites worker and he suggested that I either do it in fiberglass or carbon fiber. He said that it will look better in the end and he is only going to charge me beer to do the work. There is almost 1/2" of filler around the area where the top meets the body. So I might change that one detail. But even if I end up doing it in glass or CF it won't be noticeable since it will still be painted just like if it were bondo. Anyone have an opinion on this?

If you're going to paint it, definitely fibreglass.

You won't regret going with FG over bondo.

Vipernicus, I'm thinking that you're right. I think that fiberglass will end up being the way to go. I just think that it will end up being easier to shape perfectly and that it will last longer than bondo would.

LT1, original price was $46,500 for the PA. Pretty steep back in those days. But according to the receipts, Avatar charged just under $10K for the Alpine stereo that was installed!

Whenever I finally get the car finished it will either make it's debut at Rotary Fest (NorCal 7's big yearly meet) or at SevenStock. All documents, pictures, and a log book of the restoration will be present. I just wish that I could have it done for Sevenstock this year. But hey, if a project is worth doing then it's worth taking the time to do it right.

I really do appreciate all of the support from all of you. It really keeps me motivated to get this car back to brand new condition.

Cliff,

I'll get some good pictures of the underbody support system once I get the car on either a lift or a high pair of jack stands. That way I can get a decent picture. Look for me at SevenStock next weekend. We'll be in my wife's FC vert. If it's anything like last year, I shouldn't be very hard to find there.

Zach

P.S. I'll be in a NorCal 7 t-shirt.

zach, I look forward to meeting you. I live about 20 minutes away from the site of sevenstock. I have a 62 corvette which is my daily driver...red on red with a white top...sound close at least?

I have a tennis league match at noon close by and the wife ...a hispanic red head....usually...with blonde highlights on top ....has a 3:00 match....so she has agreed to go down there saturday early and I can go back 2:30ish..She won't ride in the vette....: ( Any time schedule?

The avatar isn't ready or driveable for sevenstock10, right?

I did a few convertible conversions on older poirsche 911 targas and did similiar bracing on the floor pans. I actually went across the WHOLE floor from door sill to door sill to be safe. We grafted the whole windshield assembly with the A pillar with the top latches attached to insure the top would line up correctly. Doing my research.

I will call Nick at Rotary Reliability .....also down the street....to touch base.
later, cliff

Ciff,

Correct that the Avatar won't be at SS this year. Things were just way too hectic for me to get it finished. But I'll be looking forward to meeting you. I don't know the schedule of events, but I'm sure that we'll all be there until 4:30pm or so. I believe that's what time it started dieing down last year.
