My Honda S2000 Fighter !!.

I always love MAZDA RX-7, I love all 3 Gen (SA,FC,FD) , I like S2000 too All 4 of them are pure sports car that share similar concept design, However now a day you see more and more S2000 on the track, but less and less RX-7. That really bother me alot.

So here I am, Going to convert my 1981 MAZDA RX-7 to Track day special. This car was SCCA CSP National Champion won a lot of Locoal event also.
My plan is simple , to be faster S2000 on the track and keep the Runing cost lower then S2000.

The Short block is build by Tri point . Base from SCCA Solo2 CSP rule.
With longer intake runner.
TEC2 EFI

The Serect this engine rev so fast is Quater master5.5 twin plate clutchs with flywheel.

Althought SA is design almost 30 years ago. and I am bit down on power compare to S2000, but one key part that S2000 lock is. the weight. Althought S2000 is consider light weight sports car, but it still weight almost 3000LB.... and compare to my SA. My SA is 2100LB car, That 900lb different is the reason give me the confidence that a well setup SA can still perform well compare to modern sports car

Hope 205/55/14 Toyo RA1 can handel all the need for the grip...

looks like a really nice setup love the color and graphics scheme, too. weight advantage or not, i think you'll still need more power to scrap with S2000s on the track.

1. what is your exhaust setup?
2. what are the rules in your class regarding intakes? does it have to be stock (for the engine, obviously, not for the car)? perhaps if you switch to a better intake setup, you'll get the extra "oooomph" you'd need.

+1 ^^

175whp on a stock port is pretty good. How heavy is you Flywheel from them (or does the 5.5 stand for 5.5lb)? And total cost thru them. Because your engine looks like its on steriods.

diyman, can you tell me more about the setup for that car? I frequently autox my fb in csp, but have a hard time catching the well prepped miatas, would love any feedback/tips you have.

As for the track, your setup looks pretty killer, though the R6s seems faster? I've done a few track days in my car and they are definitly a blast to drive, good luck

Are you talking about the hoosier R6 tires? I was curious why he wouldn't be running something like the slicks ... but it could be regulations also. I'm not sure. Also why not run something a little bigger in the back 215/225?

If I believe I'm correct and that flywheel is only 5.5lb (stock is about 23lb), and if the clutch is lighter too than stock, removing that inertia makes the engine rev easier. Same goes for anything lightened in the driveterrain, such as drive shaft, wheels, and some go as far as using a lighter weight gas to fill up their tires (like nitrogen) also not much of a difference will be noticed with the air but every bit count.s

5.5" diameter. Basically a very small and light race clutch.

wow was I wrong ... 5.5" what kind of HP can that thing take though? I tried looking through their site briefly and couldn't find much info about them. That thing is like 1/2 the size of the stock one and the whole unit probably weighs something like 10lb from the looks of it.

Looking at how that clutch is stacked up like that, I'm guessing "a lot".

Here are the pic from mazdatrix's website. and this is 4.5 inch clutch. but you guys will get the idea.

Not thing serect about my car. Just build every thing accoarding the rule.....
But some of thing might go extreme. like Althought I am using FB3S chassic... but all my interior parts are from 1979 RX-7 (SA22C). Those parts along save a least 40-50lb.

My exhaust system Racing beat Front section. Custom dual Slip on thin well Stainless tube. and merge right before axle.

I think I did not clear my self at front. My goal is to build a Street able ( full interior)
using DOT tires(that why the tires choice limit to RA1 and NT01). and mabe No Aero parts( SA is almost 30 years car some Handicap should be ok ? ). NO Turbo.
Is pretty hard to beat those S2000.... and I drove one of race prep one, I know how fast they can gain with aero and light weight.... If you want to know how fast those car can get check www.maxrev.net , and reslut from super street time attack.

Can some one tell me what kind of wheels is this ? kind da look like SSR.
they are 14x6.5 offset 15

I have both SSRs and Epsilons, which look nearly identical, but the backside of your hub is different than either of them. A wider shot of the hub and a close shot of a single wheel would help. Since there is a bit of gold on the back of the hub, I suspect they're neither SSRs or Epsilons, both of which are 2-3 piece wheels that have removeable centers. There is another Japanes wheel that's similiar, but it's a single piece wheel. If your's doesn't have a ring of allen head bolts, it's the 3rd brand, name of which escapes me atm.

Put my track wheels. on the car yesterday. The rear just barely clear it. hope the Heim join watt link wont flex under the load...

Going to bleed the brake... Unlike the Auto cross. The brake feeling and performance is very important to Good track result.

Going to shake the car down This weekend at locoal track(willow spring street), The Best result of Stock S2000. is about 1:31.xx Driving by Drift king At one of hot version. video. he did a Porsche Cayman S around 1:29.xx

My best reuslt over there is 1:27.xx by my FC back 2004.
My Rotary Lotus did a 1:28.xx over there at MAY.( was plan do another event in the Rotary lotus but afraid it going to rain.... Not fun driving a speedster in the rain)

My target this event will be Aleast get down to 1:34 and under.
