my glowing cat

hello. Ok last week end I let my car run for about 20 mins just just to worm up I do this about 1 time a month. So I was out side loving the sound of the rotary. Then go in to turn off the motor. Then I know motors can get hot so i looked under the car to see or hear any leaks (just to see). No leaks but my cat was glowing red. I was like that does not look good so I grabed the camara and put it under the car so you can see the cat and made a vide. So I went in the car to rev it about 6000rpm so see if it gets more hot looking. its kind of hard to see in the video but if you look close you can see and I have it marked to show where it is. So is this ok or are my cats shot and I need new one? or does this allways happon?

If you have removed the air pump, this will cause the cat the overheat. If the guts from one of the precats has callapsed, it will clog the opening to the main cat and cause it to overheat. Short story. If you can get by without them, remove them. If you can't, gut them. If you have to pass smog, replace them........

Check your timing. If your timing is too far retarded, then the fuel will ignite late in the combustion cycle, blowing most of the flame out the exhaust. This will, of course, result in glowing headers and cats...

MaX PoWeR: i am running on 2 rotors and it need to change the donut so it sounds different but i should not leak anything on it.

bad 83: i still have the air pump on but i have to have cats or i will be charged with a 250 or 350 ticket for not having them and its a 83. i mite gut them intill i get somthing better that looks like a cat.

Kentetsu: well i have stock headers hoping this winter get racing beat they are not red at all just hot and its the only back cat is glowing red. so that mite be shot.

You are possibly overlooking bad83's most important but subtle suggestions - gut the cats - you will be happy and not fined if you only have to have the physical appearance of a cat and no performance check is made.
