Unhappy Is my engine blown?!! HELP!!!

-1984 rx7 gs no mods-

Ok,
I parked it one night and next morning it wouldn't start. It cranks and cranks and cranks and sounds like it wants to turn over but won't.

I dripped some gas into carb and then tried again but same outcome.

I recently replaced the fuel pump and filter (within the last 2 weeks) correctly; double checked. I checked the fuel line going into the carb and gas came out.

I took out plugs to see if they were sparking and they looked WET but i couldn't tell if it was gas or oil plus they were old so i just bought new ones and installed; same thing no difference.

In the manual it said to pull off a spark plug and check to see if it was sparking - So i did and YES it was sparking. Also when i pulled the new ones out they were already wet (after 15 minutes), i smelled it and could not tell if it was gas or oil. It smells like gas but looks like oil.

3 QUESTIONS-
1] IF i did flood the engine with too much gas how could i check and what could i do?

2] If it is an oil leak in the engine how do i know for sure?

3]Any other ideas of what i could check or do?

Thanks for any input.

You need to deflood you motor per the procedure in the Archives.
Also did you check both trailing and leading for spark?

You may also be running a bit rich. Lean the mixture back a tad and try it. Also check if fuel is actually going through the carb.

It turns and turns and turns.. sometimes it almost sounds like its going to start.. rpm needle is jumping.. but it never does go... i've drained the battery trying.. It flooded a few times.. no luck after deflooding.. i put some oil down the carb, no luck... and the last time I tried, the spark plugs were dry..

I'm out of ideas

dump a fat cup of gas down the carb and then see if it starts.
if it doesnt it is probably ignition related.
sounds like a fuel problem though.

they'll do this if the motors getting tired and/or the battery is weak. when i have this problem, ill get a chain and have someone pull me down the street with the key on and in 2nd gear. after a while it will fire and you just keep patting the gas to keep it running and clear out.

after ive done such, i usually dont have another problem out of it unless i let it sit for a month or so. so the key to the story is, go out and crank it once a week and let it get up to temp and run for a while or periodically drive it to the store if youre going to get some bread or something just to stretch its legs.
