Sounds like a vacuum leak, run a search on it, not too hard to fix, just need a little patience.

when checking for vaccum leak can you hear it or is it something that needs to be looked for carefully

Use some carb cleaner, and spray on the vacuum lines. When you hear the revs go up, you've found your leak. Whats happening is the leak is sucking in the cleaner, and the engine is burning it off.

Use can of carb spray. Spray around suspected area and see if idle increases, this will be a leak.
You need to do a search on this problem because there are many causes of the Se to idle high. The Se is notorious for this problem. Could be the gasket at the BACV which is located at the side of the intake manifold. ?, Did you recently work on the car and then it started or
did you buy the car with the problem?

Thumbs up

Try the throttle cable(s) one might be out of position they're located at the base of the carb, could also be your hot start acuator stuck on, its located on the left inner guard and has a cable leading to the carb(throttle linkedges) I had similar probs and that was th problem. Good Luck, Jay
