Angry .....My car exploded..

Thanks to the owner of Rotaryshack (Robert) I got 40 more horsepower and a bundle of bitches piled in my passenger seat, whoopie!!! Robert came down to my house from 100 miles away and installed the weber 45 dcoe for me in like 45 minutes. I started it up and it purred like a nice ***** cat. He removed the rats nest and the air pump. It's running a straight pipe to a stock muffler, and it still needs a rb header and some other type of muffler. I have some pics below.

setup looks good, but i think i'd ran the omp lines to the carb rather than to vacuum.

wow, our cars are damn mirror images LOL. except both my headlights go down and i have a hairdryer where your headers are

How do you know you have got 40hp?

Changing from a Nikki to a Weber 45 will only give you at most an extra 8-10hp, while removing the rats nest etc cleans up the engine bay but only minimal power increase. For many engines a tune-up and new spark plugs will give you 10hp. You will have got some power increase, may be 3hp, by leaving off air cleaners but with greater engine wear.

I know Rotary Shack says up to 60HP, but that statement is meaningless. Only 2hp more satisfies the claim. In reality you can get 50hp more with a Weber over a stock set-up but only if you make a stack more performance improvements. A modified Nikki carb will give you exactly the same performance at half the price at any set-up with the stock port.

However if you port the engine, the Weber is arguably better, and you will be getting up to 80hp due to higher air flow.

The Weber looks better and more performance oriented, but has some down side including higher fuel consumption and difficult cold weather starting. I am a great fan of the Weber 45 and used twin ones 30 years ago, but its a waste without porting when perhaps the 48IDA is a better carb for the 12A.

well, i'm a huge fan of the nikki myself, but i know from first hand experience as do many others that even in comparison to a modded nikki... the weber side draft will out perform. especially it's top end. it just plain flows more cfm. plus the manifold that you upgrade to from the switch over allows more flow as well to accomidate the new carb. when you mod the nikki to start gaining more power you also lose mpg. i know from every day personal experience. to gain power from the nikki you start modifying the primary jets. NOT the secondaires... what does this do? makes your air fuel ratio get rich as hell while cruising. when i'm around 10hg vaccum cruising in 4th or 5th gear my afr's are around 12.3 THATS TERRIBLE GAS MILEAGE.

just wanted to throw something in for the arguement.

edit: but i forgot to mention; i do agree that he did not gain 40hp. maybe 15... with the exhaust combined with the weber... yes he will see around 30 - 40 more hp than he would with exhaust and the nikki

FBII- In these discussions we are really stuffed because we quote fly wheel not rwhp while only the latter can usually be measured with fair accuracy. With a fully modified Nikki done in accordance with Sterling's specs and inlet/exhaust/muffler performance components plus airfilter and airpump changes etc, I could get 150-155 hp up from 112hp, assuming a constant fwhp/rwhp ratio. In comparison on the same dyno, a Weber 45 similar set-up was getting about 160-165 hp. The 112 hp stock was because I had a Jspec 12A rather than the detuned 100hp US engine.

Thus, I would go along with a 10-15 hp increase but have not seen any measured results showing 190hp on a Weber 45- stockport set-up. The evidence I have seen is the Weber comes into its own with a street port which can benefit from the higher flow. Thus, I looked seriously at a street port/ 48 IDA set-up before going J Spec 12A Turbo.

As for fuel consumption, I found little difference in mpg cruising Nikki v modified Nikki, but tended to use the extra power for acceleration in normal use so mpg dropped noticeably. Interestingly having now gone fuel injection/turbo, cruising mpg is better at 70mph but average has suffered with the tendency to use higher rpm and enjoy the push from the turbo.

you guys failed to notice a small detail i must point out.... its not a weber its an OER carb!!!!LOL

680rwhp- you are right as can be seen if the first thumbnail is enlarged. He said you had installed a Weber and linked to your website which said the kit was based on a Weber 45 DCOE. Is the OER carb a copy?

Edit.....Just searched on OER and came across another of your posts and responses from other forum members. It is a Weber clone done on the cheap. So the responses on this thread are valid.
