My car eats mufflers

Heres the story.
Awhile back when i still had my cats and i think the stock muffler i was driving somewhere and was in a hurry she was'nt warmed up yet and i still pushed her a little then i hear this HUMUNGOUS backfire then voila i have straight pipe it blew all the stuff ffrom the cats backl to the muffler and blew up the muffler not replaceable. So i take it and have a new system put on no cats just muffler at the back. so yesterday i was coming home at night running perfect like always and then i get up in the rpm's and give her some gas then Bam once i let off another humungous backfire. aarrrgggg... i ble the seam apart on the muffler and now i have to find a way to clamp it back together. man she goes thru these things. so let me say one thing never turn your car off (while moving) pump the gas quickly a couple of times and then immediately turn it back on. DO NOT DO THIS. it will eat your muffler apart. (only works on carbeurated)
Thanks for reading, now of to drive my straight pipe car i go

well yeah if youre dumping a buttload of fuel down into the cmbustion chamber and then giving it spark... of course its gonna explode and shoot a huge fireball....and consequently probably damage some exhaust

I paid more & got the racing beat muffler. I have a header to straight pipe & have yet to blow the muffler (it's been on there for almost a year). Pay more, get one that will stand up to the rotary - it's worth it.

Ok, but my point is this: You're going to spend how much every few months to put on a crap muffler that's not going to hold up? Add all those up, you could have gotten a good one that will withstand the heat of a rotary.

I see you've got a parts car - sell some of the stuff you don't need off of it, use that money for a good one. I understand money problems, it's not like I'm rich. But quality is quality, and is worth it.

$20 Cherry Bomb glasspack tubular mufflers from Meijer. You'll look and feel like a redneck until you fix it right, but it'll get the job done.

And you can save some by buying a used system. They last and last.

i got an apexi muffler on mine, 2.5 inlet, 4in outlet. backfire hasn't killed it yet, and it's been on for over a year with straight pipe and a header. might try a magnaflow after this one finally dies (not sure when that'll be though)

i find that with cheaper mufflers, the rotay is not compatible with them. they turn themselves inside out from the heat. every cheap one i have seen installed has broken. i am talking brands like dynomax (turbo muffler), walker, and other cheap brands. i will agree, spend the money and do it right the next time. racingbeat is the only way to go.

Hehe.... glasspack.... you're a funny guy.

The previous owner of my old car put on a glasspack on shortly before selling the car...

Made it almost 2 weeks after I bought it...

Turns out fibreglass and rotary heat are a BAD, BAD mix...

they are a really bad mix. the glasspack cannot hold up to the heat! plus, i think the sound could definatly be better when you are using a glasspack.

they burn out in a day with hard driving, but when you dont drive it on the road much, and live in mississippi, they work fine

why is it that racing beat the only way to go?

i give my car a regular hard push daily, and the 'fake random' muffler i've had on for awhile w/ 2 1/2" still sounds the same first day i had it welded on... packing still shows no damage whatsoever.. $55 in total... no way can RBbeat that

a reliable resource (person) i talk to on this forum mentions that the entire racing beat exhuast system sucks... the only reason why RB complete system is quiet compared to a custom 2 1/2" piping done at a local shop, is because RB's piping is freakin small. On the outside is looks fairly decent, but a cut-through inspection says otherwise on the inside... the tubing is very small... all this coming from the crazy guy w/ a yellow RX-3 and other FB's he really did cut open his RB exhuast system... LoL

I have one of those strait flow mufflers that all the kids have now to make their car sound cool or whatever. It might have some kind of packing around the pipe, i dont know. Is that not good for a rotary or what.

The fibreglass in a cherry bomb will burn up and blow itself out your tailpipe...

They sound good for a week or so tho...

You could go to magnaflow and check out their cherry bomb style mufflers. They are designed the same, but are stainless steel packed and are constructed of stainless.

They are called magnapacks. They are available with 2-3" inlet and outlet and come in 3.5" or 4" diameter body styles.
