was the motor turning when you tried to start it? or you could only hear the starter spinning and the engine wasn't

if this is the case replace your starter

When the starter was spinning, was the engine turning over? Or was it spinning without engaging? You could have a starter gone bad, or a battery issue. Hard to tell with the limited info you gave.

Starter or solenoid is likely bad. Check the battery cables, on both ends, just to be sure.

Pull the lower plugs, try turning it again. Make sure the tranny is in neutral.

Try turning it backwards. Don't force it.

Brake light issue could be a fuse, or the switch on the pedal. The switch can be bad, or just stuck.

Check the switch. It could be the switch itself, or it could just be unplugged.
