Question Muffler or Straight pipe???

Finally got the car fixed, spun the ring gear from the flywheel, also did some exhaust work, "clearing the way" if you catch my drift it's now got a free flow exhaust.

Anyway, the previous owner installed a new muffler, low and behold he chose an eight-teen inch glasspack, lovely I know. I know that glasspacks don't withstand the heat of a rotary (so I've heard, not sure if it's true) also it sounds like ****. I've got a Flowmaster 50 Series that could possably take its place or maybe just straight pipe the thing.

Sugestions please

Thanks
Eric

Use the Flowmaster, i love the sound they create on small displacement engines.

I have never actually heard a Flowmaster on a rotary. I would be curious.

I used a Walker race muffler, 3" ID on my race car with good durability. By itself with header and no other pre-silencers it is too loud for street, but might be acceptable with pre-silencers.

I used a flowmaster on my 79, that I used a weld together header kit from Rb straight back to a flowmaster 40 seires... It was bad *** sounding, wasnt extremely loud like a ricer muffler, but damn it was loud haha. I eneded up putting a $16 thrush muffler on to quiet it down for that time. I dont think it was too streetable, even though i never got in trouble. I'd suggerst what the fella i know who races ITA used. He used like a magnaflow round muffler with a supertrap setup on the end. You can buy that supertrap from summit, and weld it on the flowmaster.

well, if your only options right now are to use the flowmaster or go straightpipe, i highly suggest using the muffler or never driving around cops.

Freakin rediculously loud. Me and my buddy had just got our headers on and were drving thourgh town on open headers at 7AM to get to the exhaust shop. And we were ripppin on it anytime we could. I dont think that there was one person in a 10 mile radius who didnt hear us. The exhaust shop said he heard us coming for 10 minutes!

A header greatly increases exhaust noise. Even with a silencer and muffler.

The first time I put a set on, I fired up the car in the shop, (14x28 ft.), ran it up to 7k. My ears rang for 10 minutes and my hearing never was that good to begin with.

That just brings a huge smile to my face, brilliant stuff!

Every time I take my exhaust off for some work, I run it just on the headers and oh, that is the king of sounds! I always end up turning her off before too long, neighbours start to come out wondering what all the noise is. Absolutely fantastic sound By far illegal but nothing beats it.

I've found that starting it brings an instant smile to my face. Started it tonight, thinking nothing of the fan rubbing on the shroud, been that way since I got it with a front end collision and all, the fan decided to decinigrate. I split my sides laughing, after I ducked of course.

The sound w/ strait pipes is called "ear slatter". Hideous & immature even if all you do is idle. Get a serious made for rotary system. Even the rednecks w/ V8s in the deep south sound way better than cheep **** on a stupid teenager’s fucked up brainless tacky 7. Don’t disgrace the car like that.

that hurts Snap. You know my setup. I did it because I wanted a 3rd gen looking exhaust not some ricer I'm cool cause everyone else does it person. And I'm not a teenager but still. I'm saving up for a road racing mid section to quiet it down. I like the sound of it leave me alone.

Hey Snapshot, I'm just asking. All I want is the opinions of others with rotaries not somebodies *** chewing as it seems you're doing....Tell ya what, you give me the $$$$ to put a clean, profetional, perfromance exhaust and I'll do it. I'm in College with no money to speak of and am not able to do expensive mods, I'm needing something to get by until I can get the cash. I.E what I've got on hand, something I can build and install myself.

So what If I'm a nine-teen year old, I've done a complete exhaust for my 70' Ford but that was before I started college. I'm doing what I can with what I got and I know glasspacks aren't built for Rotarys.

So cool it.

He might be groaning but there's a mission to his madness. All your going to do if you don't get it right the first time is set yourself up to have to do it again.

That's why I asked the group for sugestions, not an *** chewing, I haven't done anything yet, I'm still working over the front end trying to stop oil leaks and strighten frame rails, this was needed for the near future.

If he's got usefull information then use a profetional manor,
not refering to people like me with

If it's not meant towards me then make sure that it's known.
