The car seemed to run smoother through all the rpm range, and started even better. Cant say about hp/Tq as i installed a lightweight flywheel right after.

hp and tq not much, maybe some tq in the low low rpms that you never drive at (sub 2500). My car starts a lot easier and i get 1 or 2 mpg better, idles a little smoother as well.

Most people have the "my car runs smoother now" response.

However, my understanding is, if hooked up correctly, incredible horsepower gains can be had by the addition of a capacitive discharge, multi spark system like an MSD.

You should also consider replacing teh aging coils. If you go w/ MSD, it is ADVISED you moutn them vertical. Mine are horizontal right now (stock), until i can finishthe mounting brackets.

I haven't seen or heard of any cases were there were "incredible" horsepower gains, - but I do know that the MSD is an excellent upgrade over stock ignitors, especially in direct fire mode replacing the leading ignitor. The MSD provides a stronger spark over a longer duration - both big plus's on a rotory. I've always said (IMO) it's the best money I ever spend on both of my 1st gens (carb and FI). Aside from the much improved idle and start up, I found the rev's between 5 and 7K to be much smoother and stronger and if you can improve in that range, you are most likely producing more HP.

I still think it's a better idea to use a DIS coil when going MSD. I picked up a used FC leading coil recently for my MSD6AL.

I've read up to a 10hp gain in the higher rpm's. This would explain the smoother reving up to redline. I don't know about torque though.

Maybe its just on turbo rotaries that the difference is so noticable.
