Question msd blaster 2 coil for stock ignition???

OK,, I want to change my stock coils (I think they have never been changed on the car)... I was thinking of changing both leading and trailing to msd blaster 2's... In the future I would like to get an msd 6A ignition..... These are my questions:
1) Can I use 2 msd blaster 2's to replace the 2 stock coils even though I still have the stock distributor???
2) Can I use the 2 msd blaster 2's for the msd 6A ignition I plan to get in the future???

Thanks.

Yes to both. Depending on which car you have (points or electronic ignition) you will either need the MSD's with or without the resistors. The points systems needs the resistors, and the elevtronic does not.

Oh, and I've heard that you cant mount the MSDs on their sides cause they are oil filled, so you may want to look into alternative mounting locations...The Drivers side strut tower seems to be a popular choice, especially with direct fire.

Use the High Vibrations - same as Blaster 2's but can mounted in any position.

I've had the Blasters in the stock location for years now without a problem as have many others. Besides, the stock coils are oil filled as well so I doubt it's going to cause any problems.

I'm sure my coils are the stock 17yr old ones as well. Should I consider changing them? Do they weaken over time? TIA

I converted my 83 rx7 leading side to a waste spark coil from a 88 rx7. Run the wires strait from the coil to the plugs. Seems to work fine so far. I left the trailing stock.

Yeah,,, I heard summit recommends it... A couple of other people have told me that,,, and I read it in another post in the forum... I was thinking of buying the cadium bracket that says msd on it to mount it vertically.... Anybody else have or heard of people using the high vibration msd coil to use with the stock distributor???? Can it be mounted on its side???? Oh,, and does anyone know if the heads are different on the chrome and red blaster 2's???

Why would they be? They are designed to take a "typical" spark plug boot. Why would they make one different from the other?

~T.J.

PS - To me, that would be kinda like a spark plug company changing the diameter of a plug so that a wire doesnt fit anymore...It just wouldnt be smart

Mounting location

I believe all universal coils, such as the MSD Blaster 2's, are oil filled.
