Wow, you're taking this very hard. Why so defensive?

I remember your little spat with our good friend on the other forum recently. To keep this from progressing, I'm going to back down. Like you said, it is your car, and you're having fun with it. No one can argue about that.

Oh, and to answer your question, I've never actually tried the MSD wired the way yours is because Paul Yaw recommended against it. My loss I suppose. There is still time to test it in the future though.

i ran an MSD 6AL, but i'm going to try direct fire on stock coils and slowly upgrade to MSD coils ... so i'll be the guinea pig. if you want ...

just give me a month or two. you guys can tell me what to look for. mileage? 1/4 mile times? power? i do plan to get the Rx-7 dynoed for a baseline with that stuff in place ... so help me out and maybe i can help clear up some of the truth and fallacies.

I've had MSD coils in stock position as well for 6 months or so now with no problems at all. I vaguely remember reading that a certain model that MSD made was not intended to be installed horizontally and I believe the new models out now are allowed to be installed horizontally and vertically as well now.

i'm taking it "hard" cause you're giving it "hard"

Dont point fingers and expect not to get pointed back at. But i very much respect that you're responsible enough not to get in a verbal fist fight over something as stupid as a car forum.

I've heard using only one msd 6AL (with the rev limiter) is dangerous due to the fact that it only limits your leading or trailing ignition, whichever its hooked up to. while the other continues to advance. that sound dangerous.

but perhaps i'm just not thinking clearly and it would be fine. i donno.

peejay lost an apex seal or two (or three) when he let his engine bounce off the rev limiter accidentaly above 9 grand (MSD 6AL on leading only rev limited to 8400 or so). His engine kept creeping higher on trailing alone. If he would have installed a switch to turn trailing off (under the dash or anywhere it's convenient), for smoke shows and other spirited use, he probably wouldn't have killed his engine.

Normal driving and drag racing are fine to leave trailing on. Just remember to turn it off when you're doing anything that is more fun with high RPMs.

I guess it boils down to spending around a buck for a switch or $150-200 for a 6AL (new or used) on trailing.

By the way, it was v8killr that had blasters die in the stock location, and sgieldon was told by MSD that they need to be mounted vertically. I'm not sure how long his lasted, so maybe yours will be ok since they already have around 3k on them so far.

We'll see. and altho i'm not made of money, they are relatively cheap in comparison to some coils... ($30 a pop)

Yeah thats what i was suspecting on the MSD6AL setup.

I just didn't want someone buying it and feeling "safe" by revving up to 10 grand and doing what you described above. Glad to hear i wasnt just making that part up ;-)

MSD recommends you do not mount the coils upright - They do not cool as well when laying in the stock locations (something to do with the oil).
I've run MSD direct fire for 5 yrs - it may not be a huge performance gain but it certainly is a better set up than stock - much smoother idle, easier start up, improved gas milage.

Man I'm I glad I did not reply to this post in reference to where to mount the MSD Coils.
I plan on doing the Direct Fire Kit from the other post in the near future. I think!
For now I'll just Read on what you guys and gals have experienced in the past with various hook-ups.
Good Info so far.
