Modifying Carburetors Need Help
Ok I cant get ahold of Sterling for some info and was wondering if anybody else out there mods carburetors?
Heres the setup Atkins Streetport 12-a with a bae turbo kit and a new t3t4 turbo
I can get an old holley 3 barrel carb for cheap and rebuild it myself no problem so far. the primarie venturies are way to big for a 12-a !! so I'm thinking about necking down the venturies with a metal pipe threaded into the primarie venturie, bevelled of course
and putting the round disc from a 390 in it...That way when i punch it it doesnt bog out. also im gonna put the fuel inlet venturie from a 390 in it also so it get the correct fuel to air ratio as far as the back barrel goes they are vacuum operated so it should pull what ever it can through the back barrel
Has anybody ever attempted anything like this before or am i gonna be the one who does it successfully the 1st time?
Also any help from board members with Carb Mod Exp will be greatly appreciated!!!
Sterling Where You At!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thnx StumpDrummer

My kit had a great edelbrock on it...had no problems at all but i decided to put a different carb on it like a dumbass and opened a big can of worms!! the holley 390 sucks terds for top end power i gave the edelbrock to a local dirt tracker and he gave it to someone else blah blah and now its gone if i had actually known how good of a carb it was id have kept it and i didnt even know what size it was
complete stupidity on my part. so thats why were here now.

My advice is to just pick up a cheap used Holley/Edelbrock squarebore and have done with it. That's what we always run on our supercharged setups. I'd say 600-650 CFM is probably enough for a draw-through 12A since boost is limited.

I would but i get so tired of the bog when punching it ...wish i knew someone who manufacturers custom main bodies!! for a decent price....I would get some small primary's and super huge vacuum secondaries and be done with it for good

If you can find someone that knows them holly carbs id go that way. I had a 650 that was a POS on my 12a for a day and even though my pump couldnt supply it OMG. Much more low end torque. I didnt have a prob with punching it other than the dam AC pump. It was dump a load of fuel in. So now im going with a 4 barrel TB with 390CC injectors in it. The TB flows in excess of 750CFM....Just need my dam MS to work
