It will not start on its own

it still starts if you push it....

Piston compression tester showed only 25psi but I believe that might not be right...

Once it started, it idles at a steady 750 and runs like hell. Pulls really strong to redline.

would it even idle with only 25psi of compression?????? I dont think so...

what do you guys think?

Someone told me that if compression were that low, you would need to push it with another car to something like 25mph to get her started. Mine starts with a little push from one guy.

Plus, I think the OMP might not be working properly. That might lead to premature worn of the engine, and also this low compression.... right?

You guys might know better... this is my first rotary and I got her with the engine in this condition.

I would put in some fresh ngks, Change the oil, Check your timing and check for vacumn leaks. Any one of these can give you hard starting problems. Also, If you haven't replaced the spark plug wires I would change them to as the resistance might be high enough to not let you get a decent spark to the plugs when using the starter. The only other thing that MIGHT give you trouble is the coils but these don't generally go bad. If you do suspect them though you can throw a multimeter on them and check them for resistance per the haynes manual.

 

Im using fresh plugs, and Accel coil (big yellow one).

I have yet to check timing, I gotta get the lamp

 

On my old 83 GSL i had a similar problem. It turned out to be the ground wire on the starter...corrosion had eaten it up most of the way. Might not be your prob, but still a simple thing to check on your list.

Check/change the Cap and Rotor. What amp is your battery? and how new is it.

also checked for vacumm leaks.

Is this carbed or fuel injected? Either way you might be leaking gas down into the engine while it sits, so that it will always be slightly flooded when trying to start it...

I will try to let her a couple of days on very clean and dry sparks.... and I will check on them a few days later.

 

Sounds good, but keep in mind that the fuel might not actually get to the plugs until you try cranking her over.... Before then, it might just be hanging out in the intake manifold. Good luck...
