bump.

Which ignitor is the leading and which is the trailing???

The Alternator, I cannot figure out. I'm looking at it, and there is one big main 12v post. That part is easy enough, it's the two unlabeled brown posts that I cannot determine what does what.

Ignitors are simple... wacky posted a pic above that showed how to wire the clips... and the trailing is the ignitor closest to the firewall. Easy way to remember.. leading is in front of the trailing, so it's "leading".

As for your alternator, I've never seen one like that.... try looking for a part number on it and google a pin-out. The large lug is the 12v output to charge the battery, the other two small lugs may be a field charge and an internal voltage regulator. Some alternators will require both be hooked up. You can find an S4 alternator used on the forums here for pretty cheap, so if you can't figure out how to wire that one up, might want to grab one of those, super easy to wire up, only two wires.

Thanks for the reply. I'm very close to getting this to turn over. Pretty excited. I have whole S4 13b sitting here, but I really don't want to swap pulley's (my 12a has a dual pulley). Worst case scenario I have to.

I'm looking at my ignitor, it has a C and B, not sure which is negative, and which is positive.

Also. I'm not sure if my alternator is stock or not, but it has 3 posts all unmarked. one is huge, so it's obviously the constant 12v feed, the other two are not marked and look identical. I canot determine which does what.
scroll to about 5 posts down from the top of the 1st page and Wacky has a pic for you. C -, B +.

My apologies, Thanks for pointing it out!

Now if I can just figure this alternator out then I'm golden!

Mild update. Wasted a bunch of time getting the pulleys off the FC alt and the random alt on the motor, only to find the double pulley doesn't fit the S4 FC alt. Out of sheer curiosity I removed the pulley from a Toyota 4AC alternator. The double pulley fits onto it with no problems and bolts right to the motor. The belt offset is a bit off, but nothing grinding the pulley down a bit won't fix. Lesson is: If your swapping a 12a into an '82 Corolla wagon, just use the Toyota alternator.

Toyota 4AC alt, had to grind the pulley down to move it a little closer, but works fine.

Looks large, you may be under driving the alt.

The pulley is actually from the RX7 alternator that came with the motor. Pressed right onto the Toyota Alt.

so the wiring diagram works. I did miss that the ignitor 12v needs to be switched power. So when I shut the car off, it kept running!!! lol

is that a fuel pump on the firewall? If so, you may wanna bring it closer to the tank.

Yup, fuel pump is on the firewall. This motor has about a 10 year history of being in Corollas. It's been bounced around our local forums running this setup for a long time. Seems to work okay. We'll see though, if I find it's having fuel issues I'll look into moving the pump. Edit, I'm putting a really small tank on it, up near the passenger footwell, it's a bit of a long explanation why, but our local track allows it.

Little more in this video, I'm not a camera superstar.

Why would you want the pump closer to the tank? im running my pump on the passenger side fire wall and my car runs great. In my opinion it doesn't matter where the pump is cuz its still gunna flow the same where ever you mount it

Because you are putting extra stress on the pump by forcing it to siphon the gas from the tank, rather than allowing it to be gravity fed by having the pump mounted lower than the fuel tank. Fuel pumps are designed to push fluid not pull, so you are likely not getting the maximum amount of fuel flow from your pump having it mounted there.

If you are running a pump that exceeds your fuel demands considerably you might not ever notice it. But if your pump is jut meeting your fuel demands, then placing it higher than the tank will likely hurt flow and cause the pump to die quicker.

A slight correction to your wiring diagram regarding the relays. Your 12VDC to pin 85, to toggle the relays should be fused. You could just connect pin 30 and pin 85 together, allowing a fused 12VDC to flow into the relays contacts and coil. Then the switch on pin 86 will provide the ground as you have drawn. Another note since I didn't see it mentioned here, 87a and 87 are not the same pin. One is Normally Closed contacts the other is Normally Open.
