Weird 12a Coolant Leak

This is on an 85 12a. The leak looks like it is coming out from just under the distributor. It almost looks like where the front cover bolts to the engine. What's weird about it is the thing only leaks when I run the engine up over 4k. If I keep the revs down, no leak. Anyone ever heard of this before?

There is a freeze plug over there behind the front cover. Look for it.

You might have seepage from your water pump that is running down the crack between the first endplate and the front cover, and only showing up at that point. Slow water leaks can 'wick' quite a ways in a crevice like that.

I don't think it's from the water pump. It's definitely not a slow leak. Keep her under 4k, and it's bone dry. But I can pop the hood and rev the motor and the water literally pours out the side...

If it's not the water pump (or it's housing gasket), then that freeze plug Jeff pointed to is about the only other candidate - - it's behind the dizzy mounting bore, on the front iron. Not really reachable without pulling the front cover, though you can maybe see it with a flashlight and mirror.
