I'm trying to replace the gasket on the back of the water pump housing, however I cannot remove the housing because the metering oil lines are in the way. I was wanting to see if it's alright if I disconnect the lines on the front at the bottom of the engine. If you guys know of a different way I'd appreciate any info you may have.

Yes, you can disconnect the OMP lines, but be VERY careful when doing so. They are brittle with age, and will usually crack or snap if too much pressure is exerted on them...

Yeah, be careful with those lines. Mine are still good off my 85 and they aren't THAT easy to break as long as you're really careful. So don't worry.

 

The ones on my 83 are about as brittle as a drinking straw, however, the ones on my 84 snapped like uncooked spaghetti . So just be careful, and you'll be alright .
