Use the search option. I'm sure something will come up since this has been done before by many members on this board. Good luck!

A question to the people who have done this mod:

Are the secondaries supposed to open 100%?

Mine do now that I have performed the mod, and there is an OBVIOUS noise difference and power difference as the secondaries open wide.

Of course, My exhaust is only a collector, and thermal reactor now.....nothing else...quite loud before..........just ridiculously loud now.

Is this.....normal, for this mod?

Its wired to open with the primaries...

hence the obvious change in pitch as they open.

I was just wondering, if they were supposed to open fully? And if that is good or bad if they do?

with the throttle open all four butterflies should be straight up and down.
Just have somebody hold the pedal down and peer into the carb.

Is everyone just going here first without even reading sterlings writeup? if so I'm gonna delete it, it was just supposed to be a suppliment of sorts to his thing.

Another question.....

It's obvious after say.......4500-5000rpm, that there has been a change......the sound, and fact that I lose traction when it kicks in, tells me so.

Now, do the secondaries open, around 4500......or do they start at 0rpm now too?

I did exactly as the write ups say. Just wondering that last question about it.

Because you've hooked the secondaries up to the primaries they should open in relation to the position of the gas pedal. If you've done it according to Sterling's post the secondaries should start opening as the primaries get near to half way and be fully open when the primaries are. You can check it by looking down the carb with the pedal pressed to the floor.

I'm still on the vacuum secondaries and can't wait to try this mod. I'm planning to rebuild my carb (or get someone to do it) in the near future so I'll be doing it then!

Don't delete it I got an idea! Maybe, with Sterling's permission of course, you could put his write-up on your website.

82-Go ahead. There's alot of "Opinion" stuff about which carb to choose, stupid little jokes, **** like that. Just delete whatever fluff you want, and scoop out the steps n' pop them to photos.

I would do it, now that I've got my new camera, but I just don't know when. The shots you took, and the ones Error took were great. I have some good shots of the finished AP mod I can send you.

Matt- you should be able to operate the primary shaft by hand and observe the butterflies as they move. About 1/2 way through the travel of the primaries, the secondaries will begin to move. There is a tab that is making contact at that point (read the write-up). Note where it is. When the primary shaft is fully opened, the secondaries should also be straight up and down.

If they are not, it may be necessary to twist that tab EVER - SO - SLIGHTLY (!!!) in order to get them to stop at the proper position.

Learning how to drive properly with mechanical secondaries on your Nikki is key to good speed, and less painful fuel consumption.
If you floor it, it will probably bog down. This mod is best done with enlarged fuel jets and the AP mod.
If you are LOOKING for the secondaries to "kick" in, go buy a V8 truck. There's nothing sexy or cool about feeling the secondaries kick in. You should'nt even notice. If you do, then you're not driving the car the way you need for optimum performance.

The secondaries open with the throttle. You can slam the pedal to open them at any time, but if you choose to do so at any time below about 3700 RPM, you'll bog down. If you slam the pedal at anything lower than 5800 RPM, you won't reap performance benifits.
And in fact, it's SLAMMING the pedal whch will rob you of "feeling out" the optimum performance.
-You can always tell the guys who are'nt very sexually experienced because they want to just slam down that damn pedal!
Tickle it a little! Find the G-spot, and make it last. Work it till your baby purrs like the racer she is!

Remember- you're not driving the car. You're driving the carburetor now. You are operating a precision fuel metering, fuel atomizing, fuel and air mixing machine...with your foot.
I GUARANTEE you will be faster on an oval if you push the pedal down just fast enough to keep up with how fast the engine can suck it all in!
People don't realize that the heavy internals of the engine simply CANNOT spin from 1000-6000 RPM as fast as you can flip yer foot.
Impressively fast-yes. But not as fast.
