I have an '84 GSL-SE.

Since my car is being painted, I wanted to replace all the emblems. My rear Mazda emblem is broken. I see that they have been discomtinued from Mazda. I have a want ad so we shall see if anyone has a good one.

I'm trying to find out what the actuall differences are between the front and rear emblems.

84-85 front = F023-51-770A
84-85 rear = F023-51-780

81-83 front = F001-51-771
81-83 rear = F001-51-781

Mazdatrix lists both the 81-83 and 84-85 as the same part and says that it is discontinued. I know the front emblem for the 84-85 has 3 tabs (mazdatrix).

Anyone know if they have different tab locations? differents sizes? different shape?

 

the early fronts have 2 pins vs 3 for the later ones. i didn't know the rear was different?

there is a 626 chrome badge that works, its the same except its chrome

 

Looks like BD still has them but they aren't cheap.

I just did more research and it looks like the only difference in the rears is the mounting clips.

81-83 uses metal clips, 84-85 uses plastic.

 

I just ordered from BD (what a rip off). Hopefully they actually have one.

Both onlinemazdaparts.com and yourcarpart.com list them on their site but when I actually submit the order it comes back with an apology.

 

I tried ordering the rear badge from Black Dragon that uses the metal clips and it says its unavailable... Guess it's either go with the more expensive plastic clip one or try to find a used one for me...
I saw your wtb ad and the mention of yourcarpart.com, it's a shame that doesn't work either...

 

weird i just checked mazda, and they have all of them except F001-51-781.

the F001-51-771 is NLA but they still have 24...

 

I guess I must have not tried the F023-51-780 on onlinemazdaparts.com

It has just shipped from BD at a premium. Too late to change my mind now.

 

I was just at the junk yard and I ripped off the rear chrome emblem from a 626 and another one from a Mazda MPV minivan. The MAZDA one from the MPV is wayyy too big for the holes in the FB, but I may drill new holes because I like the big chrome look so much on my tornado gray car. My front emblem broke off so I need to redo that one anyways, Ill try to post up pics later this week.
