making custom gauge hold thingys
basically im fabricating and designing gauge
holders that go in my center console so that it
makes my gauges actually face me
so heres the start of my little project
materials
1) three 2 inch connecter pvc pipes
2) three stewart warner gauges--oil temp, oil pressure, water temp
3) a sheet of hardened plastic
and heres some teaser photes of the start of this little experiment
first trys might not go so well just a warning but ill try to do it well the first time
ill keep taking pictures of the whole thing and upload them as i go
(also keep in mind that im only 16 and doing this on my own so yea
)

Your not gonna beleive this but fifeteen years ago I did the same thing and did it the exact same way! I built a little jig that let me cut flat sides on the pvc, glued them together and then cut them on an angle to produce the angle I needed to get the guages to face me. Here is a pic. It is amazing that we came up with such a similar method!!! Good luck with the project. I look forward to see how it comes out.

My Autogage mini-gauges came with angled ring mounts for the front & bridge clamps on the back; worked out to be just right for console mounting; because they were free to rotate in any direction, they let me angle the gauges both upward and to the left - - they meet the driver's eyes pretty much face-on:

The mounting base is just a section of plastic project box, cut to retain a raised edge on two sides for mounting inside.

news update
i got the purple primer stuff and pvc cement stuff and ready to go
the bad news the gauges wont fit 3 across without editing quite a few stuff so heres what im going to do, im relocating the cigarrete light thing to where the digital clock goes(my clock never worked anyways) then im cutting the ash tray spot the cigarrette spot and small compartment spot so i can make a panel that goes there for my guages
using a dremel tool for alot of this and razor blade for the hardened plastic

That is the reason I built a jig to cut flat sides on the pvc parts. It makes them narrow enough to fit into the dash. It was a pita but I had to do it to get the guages to fit up top where I wanted them. I just always thought the place for gauges on the first gen was under the "hood" at the top of the center dash panel.
