Not enough info Rix, what is the ultimate purpose? Does it have to behave on the street or will it just be a strip car? Also, how much are you willing to spend and how much time have you got? Just give us a ballpark range.

Alright, I will be using this on the street and I really don't want to spend over $1500. This is why I thought I could get a Stock 13B turbo and use it as a blowthrough on my 12A. Does this mean that I would have to replace my carb or can I use the Nikki? I am looking at about 220 horses (something around there). Also, is there any part of the Racing Beat Exahust system that I can use jin conjunction with this turbo setup that I have talked about? Thanks

A streetported 12A with aftermarket exhaust (no cats) and tuned intake can make the power you want for about your price range. I think you will be hard pressed to find a turbo setup that will not blow your budget a little though. I don't think I would trust a used turbo unless I the seller was a good friend or something. Too chancey for me. Also, you forgot nitrous. You can do that for half your budget.

220 hp for a streetported 12a? i think not, could be wrong, but from what ive read they only make 170-190 hp. and i know that there is no way tat my sp 12a makes that much.....
but yeah add some nitrous and hes there, that is if he wasnt a 1/4 mile car.
you only mentioned hp mods man, what about suspension? handling is the best part about rx-7's

Im seeing more and more people just slapping parts on and think they are going to get godly fast power gains,
Is every one starting to stray from the porting mods for a rotary?
You can only do so much on stock ports..

I think everybody has their own idea of what a streetport is. To some it is porting up to but not beyond the point where the motor loses too much bottom and can't idle at lower rpms anymore. Others don't mind losing a little drivability if they get a motor that really comes alive in the mid and upper rpms. I am still looking for the site I seen this at but they do porting and they have at least a dozen different names for the porting they do! Nomenclature like base streetport, intermediate streetport and monster streetport. It read like the list of weight divisions in boxing! Gamble is right though, 220hp is pushing a little for what most people consider a streetport. However, a good port job is nothing without an intake to feed it and an exhaust that can keep up.

Got Boost?
The reason I think people are looking for alternatives to porting, is they don't want to dish out the cash for a full rebuild, which any porting would certainly require. Rebuilds cost quite a bit of money before you even think of actual performance mods. So they have a steep price of entry, but are followed by cheep cheep power, once the engine is open the sky is the limit on porting.
When I rebuild my engine, I will without a doubt do some nasty porting. But until the rebuild is required ....
