LSD in my RX-7?

I finally decided to check out whether or not I have an LSD, but I'm still not sure whether I do or not. When I turn the wheel, both sides turn the same way, but they don't turn at the same speed. It sounds like there's some grinding of some sort, but I'm pretty sure it's just the brakes (yes, the parking brake was fully released.)

Is there another way to tell whether or not my 7 has an LSD?

Put one tire on grass/dirt and the other on the street and spin your tires if you dont move much and spin the hell out of the grass tire, you got differential if you slightly spin your tires and you car grabs and goes you got LSD! Plain and simple . . .

Some people will take the guts out of the LSD and put them in the drums. I hear it is easier than swapping the complete rear?

If they spin the same way then you should have limited slip. Also if you have disc brakes that will tell you right off the bat.

I have heard of people swapping internals, but most people say its just easier to do the entire swap. Less "messing with it". Just uninstall "old" one, put in "new" one.

so all disc rears are LSD?I thought they came with a posi unit some years.I even called a few shops and they told me it was a posi trac?Which I guess lsd means it doesn't give much on one tire or the other as far as power transfer.

Yes, mine came with rear disc brakes, but I was under the same impression as Ported7. Could it be that the LSD is worn out or something?

I could have sworn the "Posi" is a GM trademarked name for a LSD.

They are the same. LSD is the correct name. GM just has the Posi-Traction trademark name used by most people. There's a couple others that someone named before, but I don't remember them. Use LSD, you won't be flamed.

Just cause you have an LSD rear doesnt mean its working well,so the spin test isnt always valid. My LSD is very wornout so both tires spin freely when the car is jacked up.But since the clutch LSD increases clutch grip under power,my car still hooks up both tires under load, since I have a very powerful engine twisting the rearend.
Yes,all disc rearends were LSD from the factory. That means all GSL and SE cars were limited slip. Its easy to swap an LSD pumpkin into a drum rearend,so the only way to know for sure is to pull it apart.
